METHOD OF PLATING AN AUTOMOTIVE EXHAUST PIPE
A method of protecting a metal pipe from corrosion, comprises depositing a layer of nickel composition over both inside and outside of the pipe, and depositing a layer of chrome over the nickel composition on the outside of the pipe. The nickel composition is preferably deposited using an electroless plating, and the chrome is preferably deposited using electroplating. Pipes coated using these methods are particularly useful for sections of exhaust system of a diesel engine having a particulate filter and a selective catalytic reduction system upstream of the coated pipes sections. Straight, bent, and Y pipe sections are all contemplated, including large pipes having inside diameters of 4-8.

HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE WHEEL
Hub bearing assembly for a vehicle wheel, the assembly having an axial tubular appendage capable of being inserted into a central hole of a wheel of the vehicle, and wherein the tubular appendage has a radially outer surface of substantially cylindrical shape; a collar of cylindrical shape being mounted on the tubular appendage so as to cover a second centring section of the radially outer cylindrical surface, and having an insert of metallic material and an inner coating layer which at least partially covers the insert and is formed on the insert by galvanizing.
IRON-BASED SINTERED ALLOY VALVE SEAT FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Provided is a valve seat insert for an internal combustion engine, which has both an excellent heat dissipation property and excellent wear resistance. The valve seat insert for an internal combustion engine is used while being press-fitted into an aluminum alloy cylinder head, is made of an iron-based sintered alloy, is formed by integrating two layers of a functional member side layer and a supporting member side layer, and has a plating film on at least an outer peripheral side. The plating film is preferably a copper plating film. The plating film is a plating film having a thickness of 1 to 100 m and a hardness of 50 to 300 HV, and the hardness of the plating film is adjusted so as to satisfy a range of 1.05 to 4.5 times hardness of the cylinder head in Vickers hardness HV. Pores contained in the valve seat insert are preferably sealed with a curable resin before plating treatment. Consequently, a valve seat insert for an internal combustion engine which does not go through complicated processes, is not accompanied by a significant decrease in wear resistance compared with the prior art, and has an excellent heat dissipation property is provided. If a roughened surface region is further formed at at least one portion on the outer peripheral surface of the valve seat insert in addition to the plating film, a falling out resistance property is improved. The same effect can be obtained even if the valve seat insert is a single layer of only the functional member side layer.
Electroplating apparatus
An electroplating apparatus is provided that minimizes unplated regions when an alloy plating layer is provided on the surface of a thread on a steel pipe. An electroplating apparatus (10) includes an electrode (1), sealing members (2, 3), and a plating-solution supply unit (4). The electrode (1) faces the thread (Tm). The sealing member (2) is positioned within the steel pipe (P1). The sealing member (3) is attached to the end portion of the steel pipe (P1) and, together with the sealing member (2), forms a receiving space (8). The plating-solution supply unit (4) includes a plurality of nozzles (42). The nozzles (42) are positioned within the receiving space (8) and adjacent one end of the thread (Tm) and arranged around the pipe axis of the steel pipe (P1). The plating-solution supply unit (4) injects a plating solution between the thread (Tm) and electrode (1) through the nozzles (42). The direction in which plating solution is injected from the nozzles (42) is inclined at an angle larger than 20 degrees and smaller than 90 degrees toward the thread (Tm) relative to a plane perpendicular to the pipe axis.
