FUNCTIONALIZED FULLERENE GEL TUMOR TREATMENT
Provided herein are compositions, systems, kits, and methods for administering a gel composition into a tumor of a subject and treating with laser light (e.g., for photoacoustic destruction of the tumor and tumor debris generation), where the gel comprises functionalized fullerenes (FFs) and a biocompatible polymer. In certain embodiments, 0.1-5% (e.g., about 1-2%) by weight of the gel is the functionalized fullerenes (e.g., polyhydroxy fullerenes). In other embodiments, the FFs have a generally symmetrical spherical structure.
Laser-induced carbon nanostructures
There is disclosed a method of producing a heating structure, comprising the steps of: (a) using a first laser beam configured to irradiate an encapsulated, sub-surface region of a carbon pre-cursor material below a surface of the carbon pre-cursor material, parameters of the first laser beam being selected to create carbon foam in that encapsulated, sub-surface region and a carbon-based material above the carbon foam; and (b) using a second laser beam configured to remove or ablate the carbon-based material sitting above the carbon foam, parameters of the second laser beam being selected to expose or alter at least some of the carbon foam, to produce a resultant carbon foam material; and (c) configuring the resultant carbon foam material for use as an electrically conductive heating structure.
Additive for liquid fuels, fuel compositions based on the additive, and methods of manufacture
A nanostructure includes a plurality of substantially spherically curved carbon layers having diameters in a range of 1 nanometer to 1000 nanometers and a plurality of nitrogen atoms attached to an outer convex side of the carbon layers. A composition of matter includes a liquid fuel and an additive including at least one liquid and a plurality of carbon nano-onions. A method of fabricating an additive for liquid fuel includes creating a carbon based material using a plasma in an environment including at least one hydrocarbon gas and/or at least one liquid containing hydrocarbons, organometallic metal-complex, and/or element-organic compounds, evaporating organic material from the carbon-based material, nitrating the carbon-based material, and extracting carbon nano-onions from the nitrated carbon-based material.
Compositions comprising fullerenyl mesochlorin nano-photosensitizers with covalently bound antibiotics and their uses in combination therapy
Described herein are C.sub.60/70/PS-CB-Abx and nano-C.sub.60/70PS compounds, their pharmaceutical compositions, and methods pf photodynamic therapy using the compounds and compositions.
