Integration of power generation with methane reforming
The system includes a methane reformer, a combined cycle power generator, and a switch. The reformer is configured to react methane with steam. The combined cycle power generator includes a steam turbine, a gas turbine, a power generator, and a water boiler. The steam turbine is configured to rotate in response to receiving steam. The gas turbine is configured to rotate in response to receiving a mixture of fuel and air. The power generator is configured to convert rotational energy from the steam turbine and the gas turbine into electricity. In a first position, the switch is configured to direct exhaust from the gas turbine to the reformer, thereby providing heat to the reformer. In a second position, the switch is configured to direct exhaust from the gas turbine to the water boiler, thereby providing heat to the water boiler to generate steam.
Hydrogen production with integrated CO.SUB.2 .capture
Systems and methods are provided for performing hydrocarbon reforming within a reverse flow reactor environment (or another reactor environment with flows in opposing directions) while improving management of CO.sub.2 generated during operation of the reactor. The improved management of CO.sub.2 is achieved by making one or more changes to the operation of the reverse flow reactor. The changes can include using an air separation unit to provide an oxygen source with a reduced or minimized content of nitrogen and/or operating the reactor at elevated pressure during the regeneration stage. By operating the regeneration at elevated pressure, a regeneration flue gas can be generated that is enriched in CO.sub.2 at elevated pressure. The CO.sub.2-enriched stream can include primarily water as a contaminant, which can be removed by cooling while substantially maintaining the pressure of the stream. This can facilitate subsequent recovery and use of the CO.sub.2.
FLEXIBLE METHOD OF PARTIAL OXIDATION
Disclosed are methods of using a hot oxygen generator to respond to changes in the characteristic of the feed to a partial oxidation reactor.
Parallel preparation of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and a carbon-comprising product
The invention relates to a process for the parallel preparation of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and a carbon-comprising product, wherein one or more hydrocarbons are thermally decomposed and at least part of the pyrolysis gas formed is taken off from the reaction zone of the decomposition reactor at a temperature of from 800 to 1400° C. and reacted with carbon dioxide to form a gas mixture comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen (synthesis gas).
AMMONIA PRODUCTION FROM CARBON- AND WATER-DERIVED HYDROGEN
Methods and systems for ammonia production are provided. An exemplary method includes electrolyzing water to form H.sub.2 and O.sub.2; contacting a reformer feed stream including hydrocarbons, O.sub.2 from electrolysis, and an oxidant stream including O.sub.2 and N.sub.2 to form a reformed stream including H.sub.2, CO, CO.sub.2, and N.sub.2; contacting the reformed stream with a water-gas shift catalyst to form a shifted stream including H.sub.2, CO.sub.2, and N.sub.2; separating the shifted stream to form a captured stream including CO.sub.2 and an ammonia production feed stream including H.sub.2 and N.sub.2; and reacting the ammonia production feed stream, and optionally H.sub.2 from electrolysis, to form ammonia.
Treatment of Sour Natural Gas
A system and method for treating natural gas, including producing natural gas from a subterranean formation via a wellhead system to a nonthermal plasma (NTP) catalytic unit, converting by the NTP unit carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) and hydrogen sulfide (H.sub.2S) in the natural gas into carbon monoxide (CO), elemental sulfur (S), and hydrogen (H.sub.2), and removing the elemental sulfur as liquid elemental sulfur to give treated natural gas. The NTP unit may convert methane (CH.sub.4) in the natural gas to heavier hydrocarbons.
Production System and Method of Production for Organic Compound or Microorganism
Provided is a novel production system that does not involve, or can minimize, the transport of liquid ammonia in the production of an organic compound or the production of a microorganism by microbial fermentation. A production system for an organic compound or a microorganism includes: an ammonia synthesis apparatus in which an ammonia-containing gas is synthesized by reaction of a source gas containing hydrogen and nitrogen in the presence of a supported ruthenium catalyst; and a culture apparatus that cultures a microorganism having organic compound productivity using ammonia originating from the ammonia-containing gas obtained by using the ammonia synthesis apparatus.
Process and plant for preparation of hydrogen and separation of carbon dioxide
The invention relates to a process for preparing hydrogen by reforming hydrocarbons with steam, and for separation of carbon dioxide. The process includes one endothermic and one autothermal reforming step for production of a synthesis gas stream, wherein heat generated in the autothermal reforming step is utilized for heating in the endothermic reforming step. The process also includes a step of converting the synthesis gas stream obtained for enrichment with hydrogen, a step of separating the hydrogen thus prepared by pressure swing adsorption, and a step of separation of carbon dioxide from the residual gas obtained in the pressure swing adsorption. The reforming units for the endothermal and autothermal reforming steps are arranged parallel to one another or in series.
Production of Hydrocarbons
A process for producing syngas in a first reactor, the process comprising: feeding carbon dioxide, hydrogen and first hydrocarbons into the first reactor; at least partially oxidizing the first hydrocarbons in the first region of the first reactor; producing syngas from the carbon dioxide, hydrogen and the oxidized first hydrocarbons in a second region of the first reactor.
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING HYDROGEN
A process for the production of hydrogen comprising the steps of subjecting a gaseous mixture comprising a hydrocarbon and steam and having a steam to carbon ratio of at least 2.6:1, to steam reforming in a gas-heated reformer followed by autothermal reforming with an oxygen-rich gas in an autothermal reformer to generate a reformed gas mixture, increasing the hydrogen content of the reformed gas mixture by subjecting it to one or more water-gas shift stages in a water-gas shift unit to provide a hydrogen-enriched reformed gas, cooling the hydrogen-enriched reformed gas and separating condensed water therefrom, passing the resulting de-watered hydrogen-enriched reformed gas to a carbon dioxide separation unit to provide a carbon dioxide gas stream and a crude hydrogen gas stream, and passing the crude hydrogen gas stream to a purification unit to provide a purified hydrogen gas and a fuel gas.
