PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF AMMONIA AND DERIVATIVES, IN PARTICULAR UREA
A process for producing ammonia and a derivative of ammonia from a natural gas feed comprising conversion of natural gas into a make-up synthesis gas; synthesis of ammonia; use of said ammonia to produce said derivative of ammonia, wherein a portion of the natural gas feed is used to fuel a gas engine; power produced by said gas engine; is transferred to at least one power user of the process, such as a compressor; heat is re-covered from exhaust gas of said gas engine;, and at least part of said heat may be recovered as low-grade heat available at a temperature not greater than 200° C., to provide process heating to at least one thermal user of the process, such as CO2 removal unit or absorption chiller; a corresponding plant and method of modernization are also disclosed.
Fuel cell integration within a heat recovery steam generator
Systems and methods are provided for incorporating molten carbonate fuel cells into a heat recovery steam generation system (HRSG) for production of electrical power while also reducing or minimizing the amount of CO.sub.2 present in the flue gas exiting the HRSG. An optionally multi-layer screen or wall of molten carbonate fuel cells can be inserted into the HRSG so that the screen of molten carbonate fuel cells substantially fills the cross-sectional area. By using the walls of the HRSG and the screen of molten carbonate fuel cells to form a cathode input manifold, the overall amount of duct or flow passages associated with the MCFCs can be reduced.
Method and Apparatus for Reducing CO2 in a Stream by Conversion to a Syngas for Production of Energy
A system and method for producing Syngas from the CO.sub.2 in a gaseous stream, such as an exhaust stream, from a power plant or industrial plant, like a cement kiln, is disclosed. A preferred embodiment includes providing the gaseous stream to pyrolysis reactor along with a carbon source such as coke. The CO.sub.2 and carbon are heated to about 1330° C. and at about one atmosphere with reactants such as steam such that a reaction takes place that produces Syngas, carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) and hydrogen (H.sub.2). The Syngas is then cleaned and provided to a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactor to produce Ethanol or Bio-catalytic synthesis reactor.
CO SHIFT CATALYST, CO SHIFT REACTION APPARATUS, AND METHOD FOR PURIFYING GASIFIED GAS
A CO shift catalyst according to the present invention reforms carbon monoxide (CO) in gas. The CO shift catalyst has one of molybdenum (Mo) or iron (Fe) as a main component and has an active ingredient having one of nickel (Ni) or ruthenium (Ru) as an accessory component and one or two or more kinds of oxides from among titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), and cerium (Ce) for supporting the active ingredient as a support. The temperature at the time of manufacturing and firing the catalyst is equal to or higher than 550° C.
Waste heat recovery in a chemical process and plant, particularly for the synthesis of ammonia
A method for recovering waste heat in a process for the synthesis of a chemical product, particularly ammonia, where the product is used as the working fluid of a thermodynamic cycle; the waste heat is used to increase the enthalpy content of a high-pressure liquid stream of said product (11), delivered by a synthesis section (10), thus obtaining a vapor or supercritical product stream (20), and energy is recovered by expanding said vapor or supercritical stream across at least one suitable ex-pander (13); the method is particularly suited to recover the heat content of the syngas effluent after low-temperature shift.
METHODS FOR PRODUCING AND STORING ENERGY SOURCES
A method for producing an energy source from excess electricity is disclosed. The method uses excess electricity from a power grid when electrical demand is low. The method produces the energy source by performing the steps firstly in the storage phase of feeding the excess electricity to a thermal reactor wherein solid carbon and gaseous hydrogen are produced from the thermal reaction of a hydrocarbon; feeding the gaseous hydrogen to a hydrogen storage unit; feeding the solid carbon to a carbon storage unit; and secondly in the discharge phase, feeding the solid carbon to a combustion unit wherein steam is produced; and feeding the steam to an engine or a turbine thereby producing electricity.
CO2 UTILIZATION IN MOLTEN SALT REACTOR (MSR) FOR ULTRA ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND REDUCED EMISSIONS
A system for a carbon neutral cycle of gas production may include a molten salt reactor configured to generate zero carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) emissions electricity. The system may include a desalination unit configured to receive the zero-CO.sub.2 emissions electricity from the molten salt reactor and produce a desalinated water. The system may include an electrolysis unit configured to be powered by the zero-CO2 emissions electricity generated by the molten salt reactor and generate hydrogen (H.sub.2) and oxygen (O.sub.2) from the desalinated water. The system may include an oxy-combustion unit configured to receive and combust a hydrocarbon fuel with the O.sub.2 from the electrolysis unit to produce electricity and CO.sub.2. The system may include a CO.sub.2 capture system adapted to capture the CO.sub.2 produced by the oxy-combustion unit and a catalytic hydrogenation unit configured to receive and convert H.sub.2 from the electrolysis unit and CO.sub.2 from the CO.sub.2 capture system to produce the hydrocarbon fuel.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR LOCAL GENERATION AND/OR CONSUMPTION OF HYDROGEN GAS
Systems for producing hydrogen gas for local distribution, consumption, and/or storage, and related devices and methods are disclosed herein. A representative system includes a pyrolysis reactor that can be coupled to a supply of reaction material that includes a hydrocarbon. The reactor includes one or more flow channels positioned to transfer heat to the reaction material to convert the hydrocarbon into an output that includes hydrogen gas and carbon particulates. The system also includes a carbon separation system operably coupled to the pyrolysis reactor to separate the hydrogen gas the carbon particulates in the output. In various embodiments, the system also includes components to locally consume the filtered hydrogen gas.
All-steam gasification with carbon capture
A carbonaceous fuel gasification system for all-steam gasification with carbon capture includes a micronized char preparation system comprising a devolatilizer that receives solid carbonaceous fuel, hydrogen, oxygen, and fluidizing steam and produces micronized char, steam, volatiles, hydrogen, and volatiles at outlets. An indirect gasifier includes a vessel comprising a gasification chamber that receives the micronized char, a conveying fluid, and steam. The gasification chamber produces syngas, ash, and steam at one or more outlets. A combustion chamber receives a mixture of hydrogen and oxidant and burns the mixture of hydrogen and oxidant to provide heat for gasification and for heating incoming flows, thereby generating steam and nitrogen. The heat for gasification is transferred from the combustion chamber to the gasification chamber by circulating refractory sand. The system of the present teaching produces nitrogen free high hydrogen syngas for applications such as IGCC with CCS, CTL, and Polygeneration plants.
Methods and systems for diesel fueled CLC for efficient power generation and CO.SUB.2 .capture
An integrated chemical looping combustion (CLC) electrical power generation system and method for diesel fuel combining four primary units including: gasification of diesel to ensure complete conversion of fuel, chemical looping combustion with supported nickel-based oxygen carrier on alumina, gas turbine-based power generation and steam turbine-based power generation is described. An external combustion and a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) are employed to maximize the efficiency of a gas turbine generator and steam turbine generator. The integrated CLC system provides a clean and efficient diesel fueled power generation plant with high CO.sub.2 recovery.
