The adjustment mechanism has a length fixing configuration and an adjustment configuration, wherein the length fixing configuration is configured to prevent changes in the lengths of the loop of strap and the length of slack strap, and wherein the adjustment configuration is configured to allow for adjustment of the diameter of the loop of strap and the length of slack strap.

The attachment mechanisms (106 and 108) and linkage assembly (110) allow the straps (102 and 104) to move or slide freely during transitions between the three configurations. The transitions can thus be accomplished without manipulating and straps or buckles and without having to remove the pack, and the pack remains upright during transitions.

The present invention relates in general to portable first aid kits and, in particular, to a low profile first aid kit that is adaptable for a quick release from a carrier and can be easily stored and carried by a person. The design of the disclosed release system allows for the first aid kit to be released with one hand from a carrier with mounting capabilities. Additionally, the medical kit includes a dual purpose carrier strap that can either be wound around the first aid kit and operable to torque the kit for storage purposes when in the closed position, or used to carry the kit in the open position until it can be secured and subsequently stored.

The element has a flexible, flat band portion with two mutually opposite main surfaces, runs in a longitudinal direction in undulating lines that are deflected transversely to the longitudinal direction and have reversal points and transverse portions running between the reversal points. A support is applied to at least one of the main surfaces of the band portion, is fixed to the band portion, retains the band portion in a normal position along the undulating lines and is made of an elastic material. The support is of varying thickness over the course of the undulating lines; being of the smallest thickness in a central portion of the transverse portions of the band portion and the thickness increases from the central portion to the reversal points. The support is at its thickest at the reversal points.

One embodiment is comprised of webbing material with fixed loop 24 having a buckle 22 that slides along the fixed loop 24 and a strap element 20 that in combination with the buckle 22 creates a secondary adjustable loop. The secondary adjustable loop is used to hold a surfboard or other object securely in place and the fixed loop 24 supports the surfboard from one of the user's shoulder allowing hands free operation. When not utilized as a carrier the device can be worn, such as a belt. The user keeps the fixed loop 24 compressed together, wraps the carrier around his/her waist, through the buckle 22 and then attaches it back onto itself.
