20240383835 · 2024-11-21 ·

The present application pertains to processes producing oxides using a weak acid intermediate. In one embodiment a material comprising calcium carbonate is reacted with a solution comprising aqueous carboxylic acid to form a gas comprising carbon dioxide and a solution comprising aqueous calcium carboxylate. The solution comprising aqueous calcium carboxylate is reacted with sodium sulfate to form a solution comprising aqueous sodium carboxylate and a solid comprising calcium sulfate. The solution comprising aqueous sodium carboxylate is reacted with sulfur dioxide to form sodium sulfite and an aqueous carboxylic acid. The sodium sulfite is separated from said aqueous carboxylic acid and reacted to form a solid comprising calcium sulfite which is decomposed to form calcium oxide and sulfur dioxide.

Method of producing metal carbonate from an ultramafic rock material

A method of producing a metal carbonate from an ultramafic rock material is provided. The method includes providing an ultramafic rock material comprising a metal silicate; reacting the ultramafic rock material with an acid to form a mixture comprising a salt of the metal; contacting the mixture comprising a salt of the metal with oxygen so as to aerate impurities in the mixture and/or to remove residual acid from the mixture; heating the resultant mixture to decompose the salt of the metal to form metal oxide; and reacting the metal oxide with aqueous ammonium carbonate to obtain the metal carbonate. A system for producing a metal carbonate from ultramafic rock material is also provided.

Recovering bromine from solid waste containing bromine compounds, and applications thereof, such as for recovering bromine in a form suitable for reuse, or for manufacturing bromine salt (for example, calcium bromide). Bromine recovery method and system include: providing and mixing (i) solid waste containing bromine compounds and (ii) solid calcium hydroxide; heating the mixture in a chemical reducing (non-oxidizing) environment, thereby forming heated product consisting essentially of only solid calcium bromide (salt); and processing the heated product, to form bromine. Calcium bromide manufacturing method and system include: providing and mixing (i) solid waste containing bromine compounds and (ii) solid calcium hydroxide; heating the mixture in a chemical reducing (non-oxidizing) environment, thereby forming solid calcium bromide (salt). Applicable to processes of, or involving, manufacturing bromine-based flame (fire) retardant materials.

Methods And Systems For Producing Carbon-Neutral Fuels From Aragonite

Carbon-neutral fuels are produced from aragonite in a solar thermal decomposition process in which the carbon dioxide generated from the aragonite is catalytically converted to methane, ethanol, or Fischer-Tropsch liquids. Advantageously, heat from the aragonite production can be recovered and used in downstream processes to thereby minimize the carbon footprint of the fuel production.
