A composition for artificial marble, of the present invention comprises: a binder resin; an inorganic filler excluding zinc oxide; and zinc oxide, wherein the zinc oxide has a size ratio (B/A), in which peak A is a 370 nm to 390 nm region and peak B is a 450 nm to 600 nm region, of approximately 0.01 to 1 during photoluminescence measurement, and has a BET surface area of approximately 10 m.sup.2/g or less.

The present invention provides a new glitter pigment suitable for providing high-brightness whitish reflected light. The glitter pigment according to the present invention includes: a flaky substrate 1; and a silicon oxide layer 2 and a titanium oxide layer 3 formed in this order on the flaky substrate 1, wherein in the case where the flaky substrate is the glass flake, the glass flake has a thickness of 284 to 322 nm, the silicon oxide layer has a thickness of 89 to 109 nm, and the titanium oxide layer has a thickness of 51 to 86 nm. In the case where the flaky substrate is the alumina flake, the alumina flake has a thickness of 260 to 280 nm, the silicon oxide layer has a thickness of 79 to 102 nm, and the titanium oxide layer has a thickness of 47 to 87 nm.

The present invention discloses a rare-earth sulfide colorant and a preparation method thereof. The chemical formula of the rare-earth sulfide colorant of the present invention is RE.sub.2-2xS.sub.3-3x.2y [REPO.sub.4], wherein RE is selected from one or more of La, Ce, Pr, Nd and Sm, and the ratio of y to x is 0.001 to 0.65. The present invention also discloses use of a phosphorus-containing compound for increasing the vividness of a rare-earth sulfide colorant.

The present disclosure is directed to titanium dioxide-containing, polycarbonate-based thermoplastic compositions that contain metal oxide-containing mica. The metal oxide-containing mica may be provided in very low amounts. The titanium dioxide-containing polycarbonate-based thermoplastic compositions are suitable for reflectors. The addition of mica results in improved reflectance values as compared to the same mixtures without mica component.
