Finally, the facility has an automated system comprised by a control panel that allows to manage and monitor every operational condition of it, that integrates and sends all processed programmable information to a programmable logic controller.

PORTABLE POTABLE WATER FILTRATION

A disinfection system for treating water. In a specific example, the system treats water prior to its upload to an aircraft or other passenger transportation vehicle. One or more replaceable filters are positioned within a filter chamber housing in order to expose water flowing through the system to filtration treatment.

Composite material for removal of hydrophobic components from fluid mixtures

Composite materials for removing hydrophobic components from a fluid include a porous matrix polymer, carbon nanotubes grafted to surfaces of the porous matrix polymer, and polystyrene chains grafted to the carbon nanotubes. Examples of porous matrix polymer include polyurethanes, polyethylenes, and polypropylenes. Membranes of the composite material may be enclosed within a fluid-permeable pouch to form a fluid treatment apparatus, such that by contacting the apparatus with a fluid mixture containing water and a hydrophobic component, the hydrophobic component absorbs selectively into the membrane. The apparatus may be removed from the fluid mixture and reused after the hydrophobic component is expelled from the membrane. The composite material may be prepared by grafting functionalized carbon nanotubes to a porous matrix polymer to form a polymer-nanotube composite, then polymerizing styrene onto the carbon nanotubes of the polymer-nanotube composite.

Method of making activated carbon sorbent from seagrass for organic pollutant removal from water

A method of forming an activated carbon sorbent from a seagrass. The method involves treating a seagrass with a base solution to form an intermediate solid, drying the intermediate solid to form a precursor, and pyrolyzing the precursor at 600 to 1000° C. to form the activated carbon sorbent. Preferably the seagrass is Halodule uninervis. The activated carbon sorbent is used in a method of removing an organic pollutant from a contaminated water. Preferred organic pollutants removed are phenols, specifically 2,4-dimethylphenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol.

A water purification tumbler includes a main body and a filtration unit. The filtration unit includes an annular wall, a flow conducting member, a high-temperature bamboo charcoal layer, and a low-temperature bamboo charcoal layer. The flow conducting member is disposed inside of the annular wall and defines a flow channel communicating with an opening of the main body. The flow channel has a water inlet section and a water outlet section. The water inlet section gradually narrows downward. The high-temperature bamboo charcoal layer and low-temperature bamboo charcoal layer are connected to the flow conducting member and are disposed respectively above and under the flow channel.

Use of electrochemical oxidation for treatment of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in waste generated from sorbent and resin regeneration processes

Perfluorinated and polyfluorinated compounds in an effluent stream are destroyed by means of electro-oxidation. Although electro-oxidation can be used to directly treat effluent, a more efficient use is to pre-concentrate applicable pollutants with filters or sorbents. Concentrated perfluorinated and polyfluorinated compounds are removed from the filter or sorbent with a regenerant solution and treated by electro-oxidation. A current density of 0.5 mA/cm.sup.2 or 1 mA/cm.sup.2 effectively reduces the level of perfluorinated contaminants within 1-3 hr. using a titanium electrode. This allows both the regenerant and filter or sorbent to be reused and greatly reduces the amount of material that must be treated as hazardous waste.
