20230131868 · 2023-04-27 ·

The present invention relates to a process and plant for treating feed water containing nitrate. The process includes, sorbing nitrate from the feed water onto an ion exchange resin to form a loaded resin and produce a treated water stream depleted in nitrate, regenerating the loaded resin so that the resin can be reused and produce a brine stream high in nitrate; and converting nitrate in the brine stream into molecular nitrogen gas with the assistance of a bioactive agent.

SYSTEM FOR DIRECT AIR CAPTURE USING OCEAN ENERGY AND FLUIDICS PRINCIPLES

A direct air capture system for use in a body of water that has waves with wave motion. The system includes at least one module exposed to the waves. The relative motion between the module and the waves to draws air into the module. The system removes carbon dioxide from the air using a moisture swing absorbent to remove the carbon dioxide from the air. The removed carbon dioxide can be used for various purposes.

A system for separating competing anions from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in a flow of water contaminated with PFAS and elevated levels of competing anions that includes a separation subsystem which receives the flow of water contaminated with PFAS and elevated levels of competing anions and separates competing anions from the PFAS and concentrates the PFAS to produce a treated flow of water having separated competing anions therein and a flow of water having a majority of PFAS therein. At least one anion exchange vessel having an anion exchange resin therein receives the flow of water having a majority of PFAS therein and removes PFAS from the water to produce a flow of treated water having a majority of the PFAS removed. The separation of competing anions by the separation subsystem increases the treatment capacity of the anion exchange resin to remove PFAS from the contaminated water.

Filter assembly for ice making appliance

A filter cartridge assembly for an ice making appliance having a rectilinear filter cartridge with a plurality of partitions that are positioned within an internal chamber, form multiple sub-chambers, and create a non-linear pathway for the flow of water through the filter cartridge. Filter media positioned in the sub-chambers of the filter cartridge are configured to remove dissolved solids from water travelling through the filter cartridge and used by the appliance to create ice, including clear ice.

Weak ion exchange particulate medium prepared from phenol-containing organic matter for anions contained in aqueous solutions

A process for the preparation of a granulated or pelletized weak anion exchange medium from a phenol-containing organic material like peat, followed by low-temperature torrefaction of the granules to produce a high degree of physical stability of the granules at high-pH conditions, followed by chemical pretreatment of the stable granule via a hydrolysis reaction, and optionally surface treatment with acids, followed by the main chemical treatment of the hydrolyzed granule via separate aldehyde and amine reagents, or alternatively via an adduct reagent like hexamethylenetetramine is provided by this invention. The weak anion exchange medium of this invention can be used in a variety of aqueous solution treatment processes, such as wastewater treatment for removing mineral acids like H.sub.2SO.sub.4, HNO.sub.3, HCl, HBr, HF, H.sub.3PO.sub.4, HI, or formic acid from the wastewater. The resulting anion exchanger medium is particularly useful for treating wastewaters in a low-pH environment.

In one aspect, systems and methods for the efficient and cost-effective removal of bromide from wastewater streams are described herein. Briefly, a system for bromide removal comprises pretreatment apparatus operable for at least partial removal of background ionic species from the wastewater stream and/or dilution of the background ionic species in the wastewater stream. The system also comprises bromide capture apparatus operable for removal of bromide from the pretreated wastewater stream, wherein the system removes bromide from the wastewater stream at an efficiency of at least 80 percent. In some embodiments, bromide is recovered from the capture apparatus and reused in flue gas treatment applications.

Metal-supported anion exchange resins and method of remediating toxic anions using the same

Provided are a method of removing a perchlorate ion (ClO.sub.4.sup.−) and a nitrate ion (NO.sub.3.sup.−) which are toxic anions in wastewater using an anion-exchange resin on which a metal is supported, and more particularly an anion-exchange resin on which a hydrogen activating metal is supported or a hydrogen activating metal and a secondary metal are supported together and a method of removing toxic anions using the same. The toxic anions may be efficiently ion-exchanged and removed using an anion-exchange resin supporting a reduction catalyst, the regeneration of the anion-exchange resin may be facilitated, and the consumption of energy and the reducing agent may be reduced, thereby being usable in removal of toxic anions from an actual water purification system.
