A membrane-based heat and mass exchanger includes a plurality of slats where each slat has at least one membrane support structure, a plurality of grooves, at least one first inlet port and one first outlet port for a first fluid, and at least one second inlet port and at least one second outlet port for a second fluid. O-rings or gaskets shaped to match the plurality of grooves are inserted and a plurality of selective membranes is secured to the slats over the supports. The assembly is secured using bolts or clamps for compressing the slats and the selective membranes into an assembly of slats. The slats can be plastic and can be formed from multiple plastic sheets that are welded together to form structures for supporting and channeling fluids through the sheet. The sheets can display a serpentine surface for mixing of fluids under flow.

Dehydration of water containing source of formaldehyde, and a method for producing an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic ester

Disclosed are methods for dehydrating a water containing source of formaldehyde in which water is separated from the water containing source of formaldehyde using a zeolite membrane. In certain aspects, the water containing source of formaldehyde includes a separation enhancer having a relative static permittivity ranging from 2.5 to 20, and the water containing source of formaldehyde may further include methanol. In certain aspects, (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester may be produced using the dehydrated source of formaldehyde.

THERMOELECTRIC POWER GENERATION AND MINERAL EXTRACTION FROM BRINES
20180269367 · 2018-09-20 ·

Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus that uses a brine from a well that is used to both generate electricity and recover valuable minerals present in the brine. The method and apparatus uses a hydrophobic membrane to separate water vapor from the brine to concentrate the brine that is then used to recover the minerals.

Polybenzimidazole hollow fiber membranes and method for making an asymmetric hollow fiber membrane

This disclosure concerns methods for formation of a novel PBI asymmetric hollow fiber membrane and its application for gas separations, gas/vapor separations, gas/liquid separations (i.e., pervaporation), and liquid separations including solute molecule removal from organic solvents and water.

Magnetic biomass carbon-quaternary phosphonium salt sterilization material, preparation method therefor and usage thereof

The present invention provides a magnetic biochar-quaternary phosphonium salt bactericidal material, a preparation method therefor and usage thereof, and belongs to the field of water treatment. The preparation method comprises: 1) using corn straw biochar as a precursor to prepare magnetic biochar by a co-precipitation method; and 2) adding the magnetic biochar into deionized water, then adding a quaternary phosphonium salt, performing the magnetic stir at room temperature, raising the temperature after sufficient impregnation, carrying out a hydrothermal reaction, and then cooling to the room temperature to obtain the bactericidal material. The temperature is raised to 60 C.70 C. The recycling of the biochar material is effectively realized, the long-acting sterilization of the quaternary phosphonium salt bactericide and the magnetic recovery and recycling of the materials are realized, the residue of the bactericide is reduced, and a foundation is laid for the effective removal of microorganisms in wastewater.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR FILTER FLOW MANAGEMENT
20180117532 · 2018-05-03 ·

A filter flow management system includes a cartridge having an inlet through which fluid flow can be introduced to the cartridge, a plurality of channels situated within the cartridge and designed to remove particulates from the fluid flow, at least one channel being in fluid communication with the inlet to receive the fluid flow, and a reservoir into which fluid flow flowing through the at least one channel can be directed and subsequently redirected into at least one other channel.

WATER DISTILLATION SYSTEM
20180111092 · 2018-04-26 ·

A water distillation system including a reservoir unit configured to reserve a second liquid of higher concentration than the first liquid; a pipe including a first end communicated with the first liquid and a second end communicated with the second liquid in the reservoir unit; a semipermeable membrane fitted on the pipe to separate the first liquid and the second liquid, so that the first liquid is mixed into the second liquid through the semipermeable membrane and led to the reservoir unit by osmotic action; and a distillation unit configured to distill the second liquid in the reservoir unit by solar energy.

ZEOLITE MEMBRANE COMPLEX AND SEPARATION METHOD

A zeolite membrane complex includes a porous support and a zeolite membrane formed on the support. The zeolite membrane includes a low density layer covering the support and a dense layer covering the low density layer. The dense layer has a content percentage of zeolite crystals higher than that of the low density layer. In a cross section of the zeolite membrane complex perpendicular to a surface of the support, an average aspect ratio of zeolite crystals contained in the dense layer is not smaller than 2 and not larger than 4. When a surface of the zeolite membrane which is a surface of the dense layer is observed from a direction perpendicular to the surface, 20% or more of zeolite crystals among zeolite crystals positioned on the surface each have a triangular shape.

Dehydration method and dehydration apparatus providing increased water permeation

A dehydration method is a dehydration method for selectively separating water from a mixture that contains water, and the method includes a step of supplying the mixture to a supply side space of a separation membrane, and a step of making a pressure difference between the supply side space and a permeation side space of the separation membrane. The separation membrane includes a first zeolite membrane that faces the permeation side space and is constituted by a first zeolite and a second zeolite membrane that faces the supply side space and is adjacent to the first zeolite membrane. The second zeolite membrane is constituted by a second zeolite that has the same framework structure as framework of the first zeolite and has a lower Si/Al atom ratio than a Si/Al atom ratio of the first zeolite.
