Chemical free and energy efficient desalination system
A desalination system (100) having an intake unit (110) providing seawater to a pre-treatment unit (120) connected to a reverse osmosis (RO) desalination unit (130) and a post treatment unit (150). The desalination system (100) is configured to operate without any external addition of chemicals to simplify logistics and regulation concerns. The units of the system are configured to prevent biofouling, scaling and corrosion by mechanical and biological means including high flow speeds, biological flocculation of colloids, and making the water entering the RO units inhospitable to bacteria and other organisms that cause biofouling, hence preventing their settlement and removing them with the brine. Recovery rate is lowered and energy is recovered to increase the energetic efficiency and minerals that are added to the product water are taken from the brine.

METHOD FOR TREATING WASTEWATER
A method for treating wastewater by using a coagulant that aggregates a phosphorus-containing substance. The method includes executing a reaction phase having a biological treatment phase and a subsequent chemical treatment phase. The chemical treatment phase includes the first substep of mixing the wastewater while injecting a predetermined dose of the coagulant into the basin in order for the coagulant to contact and coagulate the phosphorus-containing substances. The injection of the dose of the binding compound into the basin is performed during a time period equal to or more than a time period required to accomplish two mixing turnovers of the wastewater and equal to or less than a time period required to accomplish seven mixing turnovers of the wastewater. The second substep includes mixing the wastewater in order to flocculate the coagulated substance.

The sheets are constructed of an open weave substrate that allows the diffusion of gas, nutrients and food, while protecting and serving as an attachment site for a variety of microbial colonies in both anoxic and aerobic zones. In use a system of the present invention is inserted into a wastewater reservoir, and aerated, for treatment of the wastewater.

Passive digestion
This invention is a method for the processing of organic materials or organic wastes in a cost-effective and environmentally sound manner. The invention works both in the anaerobic or aerobic state. Processing organic material is accomplished by forcing the flow of gas through a pile of material, containing some organic matter, with liquids and gravity. The movement of gas and liquids through the pile results in very large increases in microorganism populations, accelerated evolution of the microorganisms, and corresponding increases in the processing provided organic materials.

Method and system for treating wastewater includes treating sludge with ozone in a plug-flow type reactor to cause lysis of biosolids in the sludge. [Solution] A carrier for retaining anammox bacteria includes carbon particles. The carbon particles are desirably graphite particles, particularly isotropic graphite particles. The carbon particles desirably have a zeta potential of −35 mV to 0 mV and an average particle size of 2 μm to 1000 μm.
