FILAMENTOUS FUNGAL BIOMATS, METHODS OF THEIR PRODUCTION AND METHODS OF THEIR USE
A novel method of growing fungi is disclosed which uses an engineered artificial media and produces high density filamentous fungi biomats that can be harvested with a minimum of processing and from which fungal products such as antibiotics, proteins, and lipids can be isolated, the method resulting in lowered fungus cultivation costs for energy usage, oxygenation, water usage and waste stream production.
PROCESS FOR ENHANCED ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OF SLUDGE BY ALCOHOLIZATION OF FOOD WASTE
A process for enhanced anaerobic digestion of sludge by alcoholization of food waste, comprising steps of: (1) ethanol prefermentation of food waste—feeding the food waste having been crushed into a uniform grain size into an ethanol production reactor, where the food waste is subjected to rapid and efficient anaerobic fermentation activated by addition of yeast and pH adjustment to produce ethanol and obtain a fermentation broth and a fermentation residue; (2) sludge pretreatment—pretreating the sludge after mixing with the fermentation residue; and (3) methanogenesis of anaerobic digestion—subjecting products resulting from the sludge pretreatment to be mixed with the fermentation broth and then to methanogenesis of anaerobic digestion in a methane production reactor. With this process, the sludge and the food waste can be treated efficiently via multi-phase reactions, and the resource recovery and biogas quality can be enhanced.
ENGINEERED YEAST AS A METHOD FOR BIOREMEDIATION
Metal bioremediation and metal mining strategies can include compositions and methods.
NOVEL MICROORGANISM FOR DEGRADING OILS AND FATS
Described is a microorganism having an excellent effect of reducing oils and fats, and particularly, Asterotremella humicola strain 2-141-1 (Accession No. NITE BP-02641) or a microorganism having the same microbiological properties as those of the foregoing strain. Also described is an effluent treatment method including bringing the microorganism into contact with an effluent including oils and fats.
METHODS AND PRODUCTS FOR BIODEGRADATION OF WASTE
The present invention provides a method of producing a product for waste degradation, a product for waste degradation, an isolated microbial strain, a substantially pure culture of the isolated microbial strain, a microbial consortium or a mixed microbial composition, and a waste degradation method. The method of producing a product for waste degradation includes: isolating a plurality of microbial strains from one or more sources of food waste as separate colonies on a solid medium; selecting a plurality of the isolated microbial strains based on size and/or abundance of colonies of each of the microbial strains, the selected microbial strains being selected based on having a larger colony size and/or a higher colony abundance compared to other microbial strains; and combining the selected microbial strains to produce a microbial consortium for waste degradation.
BIOREMEDIATION OF PETROCHEMICAL-CONTAINING SUBSTRATES USING FUNGI
The present disclosure provides methods and compositions for bioremediating solid petrochemical-containing scrap into biomass.
Biofiltration System for Harvesting Microalgae and Related Methods
The disclosure relates to a filtration system for harvesting microalgae. The filtration system includes a filter housing with modular filtration units each containing a fungal filter. The fungal filter includes a perforated support with a capture fungus on the support. The fungal filter is adapted to be removed and replaced from the modular filtration unit, for example during operation of the filtration system. The capture fungus is adapted to capture one or more types of microalgae upon contact of the capture fungus with the microalgae, for example via fungal mycelium. During use of the filtration system to treat an influent stream containing microalgae, microalgae are captured and coated on the fungal filters. The coated fungal filters can be easily removed and the microalgae is harvested directly from the perforated support. New replacement filters can be inserted into the filtration system for continuous operation.

Compositions and Methods for Cleaning Contaminated Solids and Liquids
The present invention relates to compositions and methods for the remediation of contaminated solids and liquids. In particular, embodiments of the present invention relate to the bioremediation of solids and liquids by a composition comprising a biocatalyst or mixture of biocatalysts. The present invention also relates to methods for producing the bioremediation compositions and methods for applying the bioremediation compositions to contaminated sites, including treatment, storage, and disposal facilities, as well as various contaminated water sources, such as aquifers and reservoirs.
Process condensate water treatment
Methods of and systems for removing organic substance from condensate generated from an industrial evaporation process are provided. The condensate comprises water and the organic substance. The methods and systems provide solutions related to enthalpy recovery of industrial evaporation processes such as, for example, sugar cane juice evaporation processes, dairy evaporation processes, coffee processing evaporation processes, fruit juice evaporation processes, soup evaporation processes, and chemical industry evaporation processes.
