TREATMENT OF THICK FINE TAILINGS INCLUDING CHEMICAL IMMOBILIZATION, POLYMER FLOCCULATION AND DEWATERING
A process for the treatment of thick fine tailings that include constituents of concern (CoCs) and suspended solids is provided. The process includes subjecting the thick fine tailings to treatments including chemical immobilization of the CoCs, polymer flocculation of the suspended solids, and dewatering. The chemical immobilization can include the addition of compounds enabling the insolubilization of the CoCs. Subjecting the thick fine tailings to chemical immobilization and polymer flocculation can facilitate production of a reclamation-ready material, which can enable disposing of the material as part of a permanent aquatic storage structure (PASS).
Fail Safe Flushing BioReactor for Selenium Water Treatment
A biological reactor system treats concentrated contaminated water with a combination of upflow and downflow bioreactors that are downstream from a reverse osmosis or other concentrator. The system may have a fail safe configuration where flush water may be introduced to the reactors in the event of a power failure or when taking the reactors offline. Many reverse osmosis systems introduce antiscalant treatments upstream so that the reverse osmosis filters do not scale. However, such treatments result in superconcentrated conditions of the antiscalants in the contaminated water processed by the bioreactors. A flushing system may deconcentrate the bioreactors to prevent the antiscalants from precipitating and fouling the bioreactors.
METHODS OF REDUCING CALCITE FORMATION AND SOLUBILIZED METALS FROM AQUEOUS EFFLUENT STREAMS
Method of reducing calcite formation from solubilized calcium forms in aqueous effluent streams, including the reduction or removal of solubilized forms of nickel, selenium, sulfate, and magnesium.
METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS FOR TREATING INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER
The present embodiments generally relate to methods and compositions for the removal of selenium from a fluid in need of treatment, such as, for example, industrial wastewaters. The methods and compositions for the removal of selenium generally comprise the use of one or more coagulants, such as at least one iron-containing coagulant, and one or more reducing agents, such as at least one sodium sulfite-based reducing agent.
PREFERENTIAL REMOVAL OF HEXAVALENT CHROMIUM FROM CONTAMINATED WATER
A composition, process and apparatuses for removal of one or more contaminant anions from water are provided. In an embodiment, the process includes treating the water with a composition comprising a layered metal hydroxy salt, wherein the layered metal hydroxy salt is a compound comprising (a) a metal (b) a framework hydroxide, and (c) a replaceable anion.
Proppants for removal of contaminants from fluid streams and methods of using same
The invention relates to the proppants and proppant substrates treated with active compounds that reduce the presence of contaminants in fluids, methods of using those materials, as well as methods of making those materials. The invention further provides that the contaminated fluids are associated with wells, including oil and gas wells.
POLYMERIC HYBRID PARTICLE CONTAINING NANO PARTICLES AND USES
A polymeric hybrid particle or composition comprising of polymers, such as polystyrene or methylated polystyrenes with cyclic amines and their halogenated forms, and nanoparticles (NPs). The method for the preparation thereof and uses as nano-adsorbent, or a biocide, or a dual function combination of biocide and adsorbent for use in a fluid system for the purpose of purification or remediation are also disclosed.
CONTAMINANT REMOVAL FROM WASTE WATER
A method is disclosed for removing Se(IV) from aqueous solutions. The method begins by oxidizing an aqueous selenium solution with an aqueous oxidant to produce a Se(IV) solution. The Se(IV) solution is then contacted with a solid sorbent. The Se(IV) from the Se(IV) solution is then simultaneously adsorbed and encapsulated onto the solid sorbent to form an exhausted sorbent. The exhausted solid sorbent can then be disposed.
Method and Apparatus for Selenium Removal from High TDS Wastewater
A process for removal of selenium and nitrate from waste water includes both electrochemical and bioprocessing treatment. Embodiments include use of activated walnut shell a growth media for selenium-reducing bacteria.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A wastewater treatment system includes a circulating fluidized bed evaporator defining a longitudinal axis vertical with respect to gravity. The evaporator has a wastewater inlet to provide wastewater to the circulating fluidized bed evaporator. A heat inlet is axially below the wastewater inlet to provide heat to the circulating fluidized bed evaporator for evaporating the wastewater. An outlet is axially above the wastewater inlet and the heat inlet.
