Porous cyclodextrin polymeric materials and methods of making and using same
A nucleophilic substitution reaction to crosslink cyclodextrin (CD) polymer with rigid aromatic groups, providing a high surface area, mesoporous CD-containing polymers (P-CDPs). The P-CDPs can be used for removing organic contaminants from water. By encapsulating pollutants to form well-defined host-guest complexes with complementary selectivities to activated carbon (AC) sorbents. The P-CDPs can rapidly sequester pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and other organic micropollutants, achieving equilibrium binding capacity in seconds with adsorption rate constants 15-200 times greater than ACs and nonporous CD sorbents. The CD polymer can be regenerated several times, through a room temperature washing procedure, with no loss in performance.
Waste peptone disposal system and methods
A waste peptone disposal system is provided, the system utilizing steam to increase the temperature of the waste peptone and provide active homogenous mixing inside a thermally insulated tank. Steam is introduced through a steam sparging system and directly applied to the waste peptone to reduce noxiousness, allowing the facility to dispose of the processed waste peptone through a wastewater system.
Method for preparing a catalyst and using the catalyst for wastewater treatment
A catalyst for wastewater treatment is disclosed. The catalyst includes a porous carrier, iron oxide impregnated into the pores of the porous carrier, and platinum impregnated into the pores and mixed with the iron oxide in the pores. Also disclosed are a method for preparing the catalyst and a method for wastewater treatment using the catalyst.
SYSTEM AND METHOD OF REDUCING OXIDANTS IN A CHEMICAL STREAM
The invention is directed to a system and method of reducing, reacting, and/or removing an oxidant or unwanted chemical species from a chemical stream. Particularly, the system and method include the use of one or more reductants that react with the undesired chemical species. The reductant and the chemical stream are added to a reactor and allowed to react for a desired amount of time. The reductant will reduce, react with, and/or remove the chemical species from the stream. The excess reductant and reaction products are then removed from the reactor, as described in more detail herein below.
ACTIVATED FERRATE COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS
Activated ferrate solutions, methods of their preparation, and methods of disinfecting surfaces and oxidizing pollutants in water are provided.
METHODS FOR REMOVING BIURET FROM A LIQUID
Described herein are methods for eliminating biuret from an environment such as a body of water, through treatment with an effective amount of a hypochlorite. Additionally described herein are methods of eliminating biuret resulting from enzymatic degradation of CYA in an aqueous solution.
LIGNIN-BASED HIERARCHICAL POROUS CARBON WITH HIGH SPECIFIC SURFACE AREA AND PREPARATION METHOD AND APPLICATION THEREOF
The present invention discloses a lignin-based hierarchical porous carbon with high specific surface area and preparation method and application thereof. The present invention employs maleic anhydride, acrylic acid, and hypophosphorous acid to modify a lignin, then performs a cross-linking reaction with a glutaraldehyde-triethanolamine condensate to prepare a lignin graft-copolymerized by phosphino carboxylic acid copolymer, and then dropwise adding a soluble calcium salt solution and a soluble carbonate solution into the lignin graft-copolymerized by phosphino carboxylic acid copolymer dispersion successively, co-precipitates to prepare a lignin/nano CaCO.sub.3 complex, finally obtains a lignin-based hierarchical porous carbon with high specific surface area through carbonizing at a high temperature. The preparation method of the present invention may enable nano CaCO.sub.3 to be uniformly and stably dispersed in a three-dimensional network structure of the lignin graft-copolymerized by phosphino carboxylic acid copolymer, realizing full and uniform complexation of the lignin with nano CaCO.sub.3.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SEMICONDUCTOR FABRICATION PROCESS
Disclosed are wastewater treatment systems and methods for semiconductor fabrication process. The method comprises performing first concentration on wastewater discharged from a semiconductor process chamber, and performing second concentration on concentrated wastewater or at least a portion of the wastewater concentrated by the first concentration. The step of performing the first concentration includes performing in a first electrodialysis apparatus an ion exchange between the wastewater and first treatment water. The step of performing the second concentration includes allowing the concentrated wastewater to circulate in a second electrodialysis apparatus, allowing second treatment water to circulate in the second electrodialysis apparatus, providing a power to an anode and a cathode of the second electrodialysis apparatus to perform an ion exchange between the second treatment water and the concentrated wastewater, and joining a portion of the concentrated wastewater to the second treatment water.
METHOD FOR ENHANCED BIO-TREATMENT OF REFRACTORY ORGANIC POLLUTANTS WITH PHOTO-EXCITED HOLES AS ELECTRON ACCEPTORS
The present invention relates to the technical field of wastewater treatment, and discloses a method for enhanced bio-treatment of refractory organic pollutants with photo-excited holes as electron acceptors. The method comprises the following steps: 1) placing a composite semiconductor-coated carrier material into a reactor, introducing wastewater into the reactor inoculated with anaerobic sludge, and allowing the composite semiconductor-coated carrier material to be immersed in the wastewater, wherein the composite semiconductor-coated carrier material comprises a conductive carrier and composite semiconductor materials loaded on the conductive carrier; 2) carrying out habituated culture on the anaerobic sludge for a period of time, and loading a biological membrane on the surface of the composite semiconductor materials, to construct a photo-excited hole enhanced bioreactor; and 3) treating the refractory pollutants in the wastewater by utilizing the reactor under irradiation.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR REDUCING THE CONCENTRATION OF AMINE IN WASH LIQUID USED IN INDUSTRIAL PROCESSING
A method for reducing the concentration of amines in a wash liquid stream exiting a wash section in an acid gas scrubbing process includes introducing the wash liquid stream exiting the wash section of the acid gas scrubbing process to an adsorbent material, wherein the wash liquid stream has a first concentration of amines. The wash liquid stream having the first concentration of amines is flowed through the adsorbent material, and the adsorbent material retains at least a portion of the amines thereby providing a wash liquid stream having a second, reduced concentration of amines. The wash stream with reduced concentration of amines is recycled back to the wash section to remove amines more effectively from the acid gas being scrubbed. The adsorbent material can be regenerated for reuse. Amine recovered from the regenerated adsorbent material can be recycled to the process for reuse.
