A system and method for monitoring or detecting a level of biofilm growth in a fluid system and controlling operating parameters of the fluid system based a measured level of growth. The monitoring system and method comprises a dye injection system for periodically injecting dye into a portion of fluid from the fluid system, passing the portion of fluid though a narrow lumen tube to achieve laminar flow and using a light source and optical sensor to detect a transmission or emission indicating a level of biofilm growth in the tube corresponding to a level of growth on components in the fluid system. Information based upon the measurements or calculations made by the monitoring system may be used to manually or automatically alter various operating parameters to control the fluid system and aid in maintaining stable operation of the fluid system within preferred specifications.

The present invention provides a magnetic biochar-quaternary phosphonium salt bactericidal material, a preparation method therefor and usage thereof, and belongs to the field of water treatment. The preparation method comprises: 1) using corn straw biochar as a precursor to prepare magnetic biochar by a co-precipitation method; and 2) adding the magnetic biochar into deionized water, then adding a quaternary phosphonium salt, performing the magnetic stir at room temperature, raising the temperature after sufficient impregnation, carrying out a hydrothermal reaction, and then cooling to the room temperature to obtain the bactericidal material. The temperature is raised to 60° C.˜70° C. The recycling of the biochar material is effectively realized, the long-acting sterilization of the quaternary phosphonium salt bactericide and the magnetic recovery and recycling of the materials are realized, the residue of the bactericide is reduced, and a foundation is laid for the effective removal of microorganisms in wastewater.

METHOD OF CONTROLLING SCALE IN AQUEOUS SYSTEMS

A method of inhibiting scale in an industrial water system includes the steps of dosing the industrial water system with a water treatment polymer comprising at least 10 mol % of carboxylic acid monomer and a quaternized naphthalimide fluorescent monomer as disclosed herein, and then monitoring the fluorescence of the water system. The polymers are also useful for flocculation and coagulation in wastewater treatment.

ELECTROLYTIC BIOCIDE-GENERATING UNIT WITH ENHANCED SCALE PREVENTION

The present disclosure relates to a biocide-generating device for outputting a biocide to a water system. The biocide-generating device includes a housing having a water inlet for receiving water from the water system and a water outlet for outputting water containing biocide to the water system. The biocide-generating device also includes an electrode arrangement having first and second electrodes positioned in the housing for generating biocide in the water within the housing, and an electrical power circuit for establishing a flow of electrical current between first and second electrodes of the electrode arrangement for generating the biocide in the water within the first chamber electrolytic cell. A control system of the biocide-generating device has operational features adapted to inhibit scaling to the electrode arrangement.

2-substituted imidazole and benzimidazole corrosion inhibitors

Disclosed are methods of using nitrogen-containing compounds as corrosion inhibitors. The present method is used to inhibit corrosion of a metal surface in contact with an aqueous system using 2-substituted imidazoles and 2-substituted benzimidazoles, and provides enhanced protection against corrosion of metals in the aqueous system. The method comprises the use of corrosion inhibitors that are generally resistant to halogen attack and provide good corrosion resistance in the presence of oxidizing halogen-based biocides. Formulations comprising 2-substituted imidazoles and 2-substituted benzimidazoles are also disclosed.
