Method for water purification
11279630 · 2022-03-22 · ·

A method for water purification utilizing a cylindrical vessel containing a hydrocyclone nest. The heated contaminated water is fed into the nest, which includes a first set of hydrocyclones, at least one intermediate set of hydrocyclones, and a final set of hydrocyclones, the hydrocyclones in each set arranged in parallel, and each set arranged in series. The heated contaminated water is pumped into the cylindrical vessel such that the heated contaminated water enters a tangential inlet of each of the hydrocyclones, the hydrocyclones separate the heated contaminated water into steam and solids/concentrate, the steam exits through an overflow of the hydrocyclones and a first outlet of the cylindrical vessel, the solids/concentrate exit through an underflow of the hydrocyclones and into the subsequent set of hydrocyclones until the final set of hydrocyclones, and then out through a second outlet of the cylindrical vessel. The steam is condensed into purified water.

CHILLER WATER SAMPLING DEVICE

A chiller water sampling device includes a pair of flow meters and a proportional valve to provide a constant flow rate of sample water containing peroxyacetic acid from a chiller to a mixing tank. Acid can be added to reduce the pH of sample water in the mixing tank to bring the pH within the operating range of a peroxyacetic acid sensor. The sensed level of peroxyacetic acid can be used to control further addition of peroxyacetic acid to the chiller.

Condensation catalyst systems and methods

A reactor system may comprise a housing; and a condensation catalyst layer within the housing comprising a condensation catalyst comprised of at least one of a base-substituted zeolite, a stannous salt, or a phosphonitrile chloride. The condensation catalyst layer may be configured to catalyze a condensation reaction of a plurality of silane diols in water flowing through the housing into a plurality of siloxanes.

Thermal management system with sublimator and adsorbent bed

A thermal management system includes a space structure, a feed water container, a water feed line, a pump, and a filter device. The space structure includes a heat source connected with a fluid loop for conveying a working fluid through the heat source to regulate temperature and a sublimator connected with the fluid loop to receive the working fluid. The sublimator has a porous surface. The water feed line is connected with the container and the sublimator. The pump is located in the feed water line and is operable to move the feed water from the container to the sublimator. The sublimator is operable to cool the working fluid using the porous surface. The filter device is located in the water feed line between the pump and the feed water container. The filter device includes an adsorbent bed to remove organic compounds.

A composite ion conducting tube is made by wrapping a support material or ion conducting sheet to from a tube having overlaps of layers that are bonded. The ion conducting sheet or tape used to make the tube may be very thin and the tube may be formed in situ by wrapping the support material and then coating with ion conducting polymer. The ion conducting tubes may be used in a pervaporation module or desalination system. The ion conducting tubes may be spirally wrapped or longitudinally wrapped and may be very thin having a tube wall thickness of no more than 25 microns.

METHOD OF CONTROLLING SCALE IN AQUEOUS SYSTEMS

A method of inhibiting scale in an industrial water system includes the steps of dosing the industrial water system with a water treatment polymer comprising at least 10 mol % of carboxylic acid monomer and a quaternized naphthalimide fluorescent monomer as disclosed herein, and then monitoring the fluorescence of the water system. The polymers are also useful for flocculation and coagulation in wastewater treatment.

APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR SEPERATING TRITIATED AND HEAVY WATER FROM LIGHT WATER
20220097003 · 2022-03-31 ·

An apparatus and method for separating tritiated water (HTO) and/or heavy water (D20) from light water (H2O). A disposable, dense, plastic filter mesh is disposed within a cylinder which is configured to rotate. Chilled heavy water is pumped into the rotating cylinder. Tritiated heavy water, which is preferably frozen, is pressed to the interior wall of the cylinder which is lined with the filter mesh. The heavy water becomes affixed to the mesh, and light water is drained from the cylinder to be reused as coolant. The mesh filter, when needed, is safely disposed in accordance with industry guidelines. The mesh filter is then replaced with a new iteration of the filter.

System and method for water purification

An apparatus for use in water purification including a cylindrical vessel comprising, within the cylindrical vessel, a first set of hydrocyclones, at least one intermediate set of hydrocyclones, and a final set of hydrocyclones, the sets of hydrocyclones arranged in series. In one embodiment, the hydrocyclones within each set of hydrocyclones are arranged in a parallel configuration, wherein each set of hydrocyclones is defined by a divider which causes the hydrocyclones in each set to operate in parallel. In one embodiment each hydrocyclone has a tangential inlet disposed within an inlet chamber of the cylindrical vessel and in fluid communication with an inlet connected to the inlet chamber, an overflow disposed within an overflow chamber of the cylindrical vessel, and an underflow disposed within an underflow chamber of the cylindrical vessel. In one embodiment, the cylindrical vessel comprises a first set of hydrocyclones and a second, final set of hydrocyclones.
