A filter cartridge for a whole house water filter includes a cylindrical, or tubular, filter media coupled to a mixer tank with improved high flow mixing features. The mixer tank includes a bowl in which a flow diverter, a flow guide with angled fins and a filter media are provided. The flow diverter has a concave portion, i.e., a mushroom-shaped portion, the interior of which is in fluid connection with a central passage through which filtered water flows. In operation, the filtered water flows through the central passage and is deflected by the concave interior of the flow diverter down through the angled fins of the flow guide. The filtered water then passes out through an outlet. The mixer tank stirs the filter media and water mix to increase the kinetics of the mixing process.

An apparatus for the treatment of a liquid that includes a chamber having at least one inner surface, the chamber adapted for passage of a fluid therethrough. The chamber is at least 80 percent enclosed. The apparatus also includes an optional ultraviolet-transmissive tube disposed within the chamber and also adapted for the passage of the liquid therethrough. The apparatus further includes an ultraviolet lamp disposed within the chamber and, optionally, within the ultraviolet-transmissive tube. A reflective material is interposed between the chamber and the transmissive tube. The reflective material is adapted so as to reflect at least a portion of light emitted by the ultraviolet lamp, wherein the reflective material is at least 80 percent reflective.

In the method, an electric field is generated between the anode and the cathode, water for purification is conveyed to the gap and an additive enhancing floc formation is introduced to water for purification or to purified water in an amount of less than 50 g and at least 1 g, measured as dry matter, per each cubic metre of water for purification. Floc material manufactured with the method, when water for purification is municipal wastewater. The use of the floc material produced in this way as a soil conditioner or for manufacturing a soil conditioner.

A high voltage electrode may be electrically insulated from the discharge zone by the inner dielectric barrier. In this apparatus, the outer dielectric barrier is gas and the discharge zone is configured to accept a gas flow therethrough.

A water filter system includes a water filter assembly and an enclosure. A window in the housing conveys ultraviolet light into the reservoir from an external light source. A water channel conveys water from the inlet to the outlet through the filter and the reservoir portions. The enclosure removably receives the water filter assembly in a cavity within the enclosure. An enclosure water inlet mates with the filter water inlet, and an enclosure water outlet mates with the filter water outlet. A light source within the enclosure is arranged to direct light into the reservoir portion.
