PROCESS
20210292204 · 2021-09-23 ·

In a process for treating wastewater from a combined gasification and Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) process, feedstock derived from Municipal Solid Waste or the like is gasified in a reactor (R) and treated in a cleanup unit (C) which generates a first wastewater stream (1st WWT STREAM) containing salts and inorganic pollutants. The first wastewater stream is treated in a treatment unit (T1) to remove inorganic pollutants derived from the syngas. The treatment comprises a) degassing, and subsequently b) neutralising the first wastewater stream before treatment in a Dissolved Air Flotation unit (72c) and filtering in a moving sand bed or similar (72d) to remove solids, and a stripping process to remove ammonia. A second wastewater stream (2.sup.nd WWT Stream) containing organic pollutants but being low in salts arises from the F-T process and is treated separately to allow recycling within the F-T process.

PRETREATMENT TO REMOVE AMMONIA FROM HIGH STRENGTH WASTEWATER WITH MEMRBANE AERATED BIOFILM SIDESTREAM

Wastewater with high ammonia concentration is pre-treated before discharging it into a wastewater treatment plant treating lower strength wastewater, for example an activated sludge plant treating municipal sewage. The high strength wastewater is pre-treated to oxidize ammonia by contact with a fixed film supported on gas transfer membranes in a membrane aerated biofilm reactor. The pre-treatment may be a batch or continuous process. The pre-treatment can be controlled to remove ammonia to about the point of material alkalinity depletion. One or more parameters such as alkalinity, pH, or membrane exhaust oxygen concentration can be monitored to determine if alkalinity depletion has occurred or is about to occur. In some examples, the high strength wastewater is blended with wastewater having less ammonia and more alkalinity, for example municipal sewage or primary effluent. In some examples, the high strength wastewater is a liquid fraction of one or more sludges.

Dynamic produced water treatment apparatus and system
11040900 · 2021-06-22 ·

An automated produced water treatment system that injects ozone or an ozone-oxygen mixture upstream of produced water separators, with the dose rate changing dynamically as the produced water quality changes, as determined by continuous monitoring of the produced water quality by a plurality of sensors that detect water quality parameters in real time. The system may operate as a “slipstream” injection system, that draws a portion of produced water from the produced water pipeline and injects ozone or an ozone-oxygen mixture back into the pipeline with disrupting or slowing normal operations. Disinfectants or other additives may also be injected. The treatment system may be wholly or partially contained in mobile containers or trailers, for on-the-fly use in existing produced water treatment facilities.
