Anaerobic treatment of industrial wastewater
Feed water is processed in an anaerobic digester. A solid-liquid separation device, for example a sludge screw thickener, treats a stream drawn from the digester in a recirculation loop. The solids portion is returned to the digester to increase the solids retention time and the TSS concentration in the digester. A liquid portion with less than 5% of the solids in the stream is removed and optionally treated further. The flow rate to the solid-liquid separation device is preferably greater than the influent flow rate. The solid-liquid separation device may receive digestate at a TSS concentration of 4% or more and return a solids portion having a TSS concentration of over 10%. The feed water is preferably one or more industrial waste streams having a COD concentration of 20,000 to 50,000 mg/L and a TSS concentration from 1-5%. The organic loading rate may be 10-12 kg/COD/m3/day.
Microbial assisted phosphorous recovery under anaerobic condition
A system and method for treatment of wastewater, in which the system includes a blackwater reactor configured to receive a stream of blackwater influent, to contain the blackwater therein during treatment of the blackwater, to facilitate recovery of methane and nutrient precipitates therefrom, and to output partially treated blackwater, and a greywater reactor configured to receive a stream of greywater influent and the partially treated blackwater output from the blackwater reactor, to contain the greywater and the partially treated blackwater therein during greywater treatment, and to output greywater treatment discharge. The process includes inputting a stream of blackwater into the blackwater reactor; treating the blackwater in the blackwater reactor with an anaerobic digestion process; controlling a pH level of the blackwater within the blackwater reactor; recovering nutrient precipitates from the blackwater reactor, optionally independent of chemical additives; and recovering methane from the blackwater reactor.
Liquid bio-catalytic composition
The present invention provides a process for the treatment of sewage sludge with enzymes, which process comprises treating a sewage sludge resulting from the treatment of municipal or industrial waste water with a composition comprising a fermentation supernatant product from a Saccharomyces cerevisiae culture and a non-ionic surfactant, wherein said fermentation supernatant product is free of active enzymes, at conditions suitable for generating said active enzymes from said sewage sludge in situ.

The method of the present disclosure for treating high-concentration fermentation by-products produced in an amino acid fermentation process includes: a decomposition step S10 of introducing fermentation by-products and a thermophilic aerobic microorganism into a decomposition tank provided with a heating device; and a separation step S20 of separating sludge and a remainder produced by reaction between the thermophilic aerobic microorganism and the fermentation by-products in the decomposition step S10.
Methods and apparatus for treatment and purification of wastewater
A method of treating oil and gas produced water may include: receiving produced water from one or more wells; separating an aqueous portion of the produced water from oil and solids included in the produced water in order to provide recovered water; performing anaerobic bio-digestion of organic matter included in the produced water using a biomass mixture of anaerobic bacteria obtained from a plurality of wells; aerating the recovered water in order to promote metal precipitation; and performing aerobic bio-digestion of organic matter present in the recovered water. Some embodiments may also include one or more of anoxic equalization, filtration, pasteurization, reverse osmosis, and biocide treatment of the recovered water. The recovered water may be used for oil and gas well fracking and/or land and stream application. Other methods of treating oil and gas produced water are also described.
Energy production with hyperthermophilic organisms
The present invention relates to the field of degradation with hyperthermophilic organisms, and in particular to the use of hyperthermophilic degradation to produce heat and energy rich components including hydrogen and ethanol from a biomass. In some embodiments, a biomass is fermented in the presence of hyperthermophilic organisms to produce heat. The heat is used to heat a liquid which is used directly in a heat pump or radiant heat or to produce electricity or drive a steam turbine. In some embodiments, acetate is utilized as a substrate to produce energy by methanogenesis.
Process for anaerobic digestion of carbonaceous material
A process of treatment of carbonaceous material, such as wastewater sludge or organic waste, includes performing a thermal treatment of the carbonaceous material, thereby providing thermally treated carbonaceous material, cooling the thermally treated carbonaceous material, thereby providing cooled carbonaceous material, the cooling being performed using a vacuum cooling procedure, and performing a post-treatment of the cooled carbonaceous material, and at least one carbonaceous material degassing.
