METHOD OF FORMING A GLASS ARTICLE AND THE GLASS ARTICLE FORMED THEREBY

A method of forming a glass article includes providing a first glass sheet. The first glass sheet is heated to a temperature suitable for shaping. The first glass sheet is deposited on a first bending tool. An edge portion of the first glass sheet is disposed over a shaping surface of the first bending tool. The shaping surface of the first bending tool is configured to provide in the first glass sheet a compression area and a tension area. The first glass sheet is shaped on the first bending tool and the compression area is formed in the edge portion of the first glass sheet. The compression area includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion has a width which is greater than a width of a second portion.

Shaped glass article and method for producing such a shaped glass article

A shaped glass article is provided that is ultrathin, has two surfaces and one or more edges joining the two surfaces, and a thickness between the two surfaces. The shaped ultrathin glass article has at least one curved area with a non-vanishing surface curvature with a minimal curvature radius R if no external forces are applied. A method for producing a shaped glass article is also provided that includes providing an ultrathin glass with two surfaces and one or more edges joining the two surfaces, having a thickness between the two surfaces and shaping the ultrathin glass to a shaped ultrathin glass article by forming at least one curved area having a non-vanishing surface curvature with a minimal curvature radius R if no external forces are applied to the shaped ultrathin glass article.

A pre-stressed structure and a method for forming a pre-stressed structure are provided. The pre-stressed structure comprises a panel including a first region pre-stressed into a condition of membrane tension, resulting in the panel having increased transverse stiffness. The pre-stressed structure may further comprise a second region pre-stressed into a condition of membrane compression. The panel may be a plate or a shell and may form part of an insulating glass unit, which in turn may form part of a curtainwall unit.

Automotive laminated glass, and production method therefor

An automotive laminated glass includes a thermoplastic interlayer film, a curved first glass sheet, and a curved second glass sheet. The thermoplastic interlayer film is disposed between the first and second glass sheets. The first glass sheet is a 0.7- to 3-mm thick non-chemically strengthened glass sheet including a convex-side first main surface and a concave-side second main surface facing the thermoplastic interlayer film. The second glass sheet is an ion-exchanged, 0.3- to 1.5-mm thick chemically strengthened glass sheet including a convex-side third main surface facing the thermoplastic interlayer film and a concave-side fourth main surface. The second glass sheet is thinner than the first glass sheet. The convex-side third main surface has a compressive stress layer thicker than that on the concave-side fourth main surface, and the second glass sheet is adjusted to fit the curvature of the first glass sheet.

METHOD FOR STRENGTHENING AND BENDING GLASS SHEETS

Method for strengthening and bending glass sheets, wherein a saturated saline solution is applied to glass sheets, followed by a rapid temperature change, allowing the salt to 5 precipitate. The glass sheets are then evenly coated with a recrystallized salt. Subsequently, the glass sheets are ion exchanged and bent at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined period of time.

COLD FORMING OF COMPLEXLY CURVED GLASS ARTICLES

Embodiments of this disclosure pertain to a vehicle interior system comprising a base having a base surface; and a glass article coupled to the surface, wherein the glass article comprises a first portion comprising a first elastically deformed surface forming a first concave shape with a first radius of curvature from about 20 mm to about 2000 mm, and a second elastically deformed surface directly opposite the first elastically deformed surface that forms a second convex shape, wherein the second elastically deformed surface has a surface compressive stress that is less than a compressive stress at the first elastically deformed surface, and a second portion adjacent the first portion, wherein the second portion is substantially planar portion or curved.
