GLASS DEVICE HOUSINGS

An electronic device may have a glass housing structures. The glass housing structures may be used to cover a display and other internal electronic device components. The glass housing structure may have multiple glass pieces that are joined using a glass fusing process. A peripheral glass member may be fused along the edge of a planar glass member to enhance the thickness of the edge. A rounded edge feature may be formed by machining the thickened edge. Raised fused glass features may surround openings in the planar glass member. Multiple planar glass members may be fused together to form a five-sided box in which electronic components may be mounted. Raised support structure ribs may be formed by fusing glass structures to a planar glass member. Opaque masking material and colored glass may be used to create portions of the glass housing structures that hide internal device components from view.

The disclosure discloses a manufacturing method of tempered vacuum glass. At least one glass substrate constituting the tempered vacuum glass is reserved with an extraction opening, and the manufacturing method comprises the following steps: (1) manufacturing metalized layers, and performing tempering or thermal enhancement on the glass substrates; (2) placing a metal solder on the metalized layers; (3) superposing the glass substrates; (4) heating the overall glass substrates to 60-150? C.; (5) hermetically sealing the glass substrates under the condition of ensuring the heating temperature; (6) heating; (7) vacuumizing; and (8) closing the extraction opening, thus accomplishing the manufacturing process. The manufacturing method in the present disclosure can greatly reduce the stress when the two glass substrates are sealed, improve the soldering strength and prolong the service life of the tempered vacuum glass. The disclosure further discloses a tempered vacuum glass production line based on the above manufacturing method.

A method of infusing silicon dioxide (SiO.sub.2) in a crystalline state into a structure comprising SiO.sub.2 in a non-crystalline amorphous state is provided. In one embodiment of the present invention, a first material comprising SiO.sub.2 is heated to a melting point, converting the SiO.sub.2 from a crystalline state into a non-crystalline amorphous state. A second material comprising SiO.sub.2 is then applied to the first material while the first material is at a temperature that is hot enough to render the first material pliable, but not so hot as to convert the SiO.sub.2 in the second material from a crystalline state into a non-crystalline state. The first material is then cooled slowly over a period of time to relieve internal stresses introduced during the manufacturing process.
