Methods and apparatus for fabricating glass ribbon of varying widths

Methods and apparatus provide for sourcing a glass web, the glass web having a length and a width transverse to the length; continuously moving the glass web from the source to a destination in a transport direction along the length of the glass web; and cutting the glass web at a cutting zone into at least first and second glass ribbons as the glass web is moved from the source to the destination, the first glass ribbon having a first width and the second glass ribbon having a second width, where the first and second widths are not equal.

VERSATILE GLASS FORMING CONVEYOR WITH 3-D VACUUM FORMING CAPABILITY

Various aspects of methods and systems are provided, which detail: a method, comprising: depositing a hot, flexible glass-containing ribbon along a plurality of sequentially conveyed molds; rolling a pinch roller over the surface of the glass-containing ribbon, such that at least one pinch region is actuated in the glass ribbon as the glass ribbon is pinched between a pinch edge of the pinch roller and the surface of the mold; and cooling the glass ribbon, separating the glass ribbon along the pinch region into discrete glass parts.

Mechanical scoring and separation of strengthened glass

A strengthened glass sheet is separated into undamaged sheet segments by mechanically scribing one or more vent lines of controlled depth into the sheet surface, the depths of the scribed lines being insufficient to effect sheet separation, and then applying a uniform bending moment across the vent lines to effect separation into multiple sheet segments, the vent lines being scribed from crack initiation sites comprising surface indentations formed proximate to the edges of the glass sheet.

Methods of fabricating a glass ribbon

Methods of fabricating a glass ribbon comprise the step of bending a glass ribbon in a cutting zone to provide a bent target segment with a bent orientation in the cutting zone. The methods further include the step of severing at least one of the edge portions from the central portion of the bent target segment within the cutting zone. Further methods are provided including the step of bending a glass ribbon in a bending zone downstream from a downward zone, wherein the glass ribbon includes an upwardly concave surface through the bending zone. The methods further include the step of severing at least one of the edge portions from the central portion of a target segment within the bending zone.

Methods of processing a glass ribbon

Methods of processing a glass ribbon are provided. The method includes the step of traversing the glass ribbon through a travel path at a predetermined velocity and severing the glass ribbon to create an upstream web and a downstream web. The method further includes the step of increasing a relative velocity of a downstream edge portion with respect to an upstream edge portion to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In other example methods, a segment of the glass ribbon is removed to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In still further example methods, an upstream severed edge is directed along a second travel path to create a gap between the upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge.

LIQUID CRYSTAL SCREEN GLASS CUTTING METHOD AND APPARATUS

The invention discloses a liquid crystal screen glass cutting method and apparatus to solve the unhealthy problem of being broken or serrated to be produced for the liquid crystal screen glass at intersections of cutting marks in different directions in the cutting procedure. This liquid crystal screen glass cutting method comprises: a cutter wheel cutting a first surface of the liquid crystal screen glass along a first direction for the first time to form first cutting marks on the liquid crystal screen glass; and after the completion of the first-time cutting, the cutter wheel cutting the first surface of the liquid crystal screen glass along a second direction for the second time, wherein when the distance from a first cutting mark equals a cutter-out distance, the cutter wheel rises a jump height perpendicularly to the liquid crystal screen glass and keeping the jump height, travels a stroke along the second direction which is a sum of the cutter-out distance and a cutter-in distance, then descends perpendicularly to the liquid crystal screen glass to the liquid crystal screen glass and continues to cut the liquid crystal screen glass along the second direction, until second cutting marks are formed on the first surface, wherein the second direction is perpendicular to the first direction.
