The method for forming high purity silica articles can comprise, in one embodiment, (a) forming a fused quartz melt from a SiO.sub.2 raw material; (b) forming a quartz tube from the fused quartz melt; (c) treating the quartz tube with an acid composition; (d) heat treating the quartz tube subsequent to treating with the acid composition; and (e) optionally treating the quartz article with an acid composition subsequent to the heat treating operation. The method can enhance the purity of silica glass articles and products made therefrom.
Method of manufacturing optical fiber base material and method of manufacturing optical fiber
Provided is a method of manufacturing an optical fiber base material by an inside mounting method, including: a step of rotating and heating a glass tube fixed at two positions and supplying a gas into a through-hole of the glass tube, wherein in the step, the glass tube is warped so that an axis between respective fixed portions of the glass tube has a shape in which a catenary curve is reversed in the vertical direction.
Tubular semifinished product for producing an optical fiber
Methods for producing an optical fiber by elongating a silica glass blank or a coaxial group of silica glass components, on the basis of which a fiber is obtained that comprises a core zone, an inner jacket zone enclosing the core zone and a ring zone surrounding the inner jacket zone, are known. In order to provide, proceeding from this, a method, a tubular semi-finished product and a group of coaxial components for the cost-effective production of an optical fiber, which is characterized by a high quality of the boundary between the core and jacket and by low bending sensitivity, according to the invention, the silica glass of the ring zone is provided in the form of a ring zone tube made of silica glass having a mean fluorine content of at least 6000 weight ppm and the tube has an inner tube surface and an outer tube surface, wherein via the wall of the ring zone tube, a radial fluorine concentration profile is adjusted which has an inner fluorine depletion layer with a layer thickness of at least 1 m and no more than 10 m, in which the fluorine content decreases toward the inner tube surface and is no more than 3000 weight ppm in a region close to the surface which has a thickness of 1 m.
METHOD FOR EFFICIENTLY PREPARING DOPED OPTICAL FIBRE PREFORM AND DOPED OPTICAL FIBRE PREFORM
A method for preparing a doped optical fibre preform includes formulating, a rare earth material or a functional metal material and a co-doping agent into a doping solution, mixing a high-purity quartz powder with the doping solution, drying same at a temperature of 100C.-150C. for 12-48 hours, crushing and screening the same to obtain a doped quartz powder; depositing the doped quartz powder onto the surface of a target rod to form a doped core layer; replacing the doped quartz powder with the high-purity quartz powder, and depositing the high-purity quartz powder onto the surface of the doped core layer to form a quartz outer cladding; and removing the target rod, and gradually collapsing the entirety formed from the doped core layer and the quartz outer cladding at a high temperature to obtain the doped optical fibre preform.

Visible light and infrared light transmitting optical colored glass, composition thereof, and preparing method thereof
The present disclosure illustrates a composition of a visible light and infrared light transmitting optical colored glass. The chalcogenide semiconductor compound Cu.sub.2ZnSnS.sub.4 or Cu.sub.2ZnSnSe.sub.4 is added in the silicate glass system composition, to adjust color and the optical property of the glass. The glass made of this composition has a characteristic of the visible light and infrared light transmitting in a wavelength of range 400 nm to 1200 nm.
High hydroxyl TiO2-SiO2 glass
Ultralow expansion titania-silica glass. The glass has high hydroxyl content and optionally include one or more dopants. Representative optional dopants include boron, alkali elements, alkaline earth elements or metals such as Nb, Ta, Al, Mn, Sn Cu and Sn. The glass is prepared by a process that includes steam consolidation to increase the hydroxyl content. The high hydroxyl content or combination of dopant(s) and high hydroxyl content lowers the fictive temperature of the glass to provide a glass having a very low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), low fictive temperature (T.sub.f), and low expansivity slope.
