Masking and fixturing of a glass-based article during a coating process and articles produced thereby
Methods for coating a glass-based article, for example a cover glass, with a coating layer that is not deposited on the perimeter edge of the glass-based article. The methods may include direct patterning of a sacrificial material over a first region on a top surface the glass-based article but not a second region on the top surface of the glass-based article. The first region includes at least a portion of a perimeter edge of the glass-based article that is to be protected from deposition of the coating layer. After direct patterning of a sacrificial material and deposition of a coating layer, the sacrificial material may be removed such that the coating layer is disposed on the second region on the top surface of the glass-based article and not the first region. These methods may be used to make a glass-based article with non-edge-to-edge coating layers.
FILM FORMING SYSTEM, METHOD FOR CONTROLLING FILM FORMING SYSTEM, AND ARTICLE MANUFACTURING METHOD
A film forming system includes a conveyance carrier configured to hold a substrate and a mask and move inside a conveyance path, the substrate including a film formation area, the mask being configured to shield a film non-formation area other than the film formation area, a conveyance unit disposed on the conveyance path and configured to move the conveyance carrier in a first direction and a second direction intersecting the first direction, a film formation unit located along the conveyance path and configured to form a film on the film formation area of the substrate, and a mask supply unit located along the conveyance path and configured to supply the conveyance carrier with the mask.
Burn-Off Protective Coating
A protected substrate includes a planar substrate having a surface and a burn-off temporary protective layer positioned over at least a portion of the surface. The burn-off temporary protective layer includes a wax, a polyolefin, a polyester, a polycarbonate, a polyether, or some combination thereof. The burn-off temporary protective layer is removable by a heat treatment process that does not substantially damage the surface. Various other protected substrates and methods for protecting a substrate are also disclosed.
COATED ARTICLE WITH IR REFLECTING LAYER AND MULTILAYER OVERCOAT FOR REDUCING FINGERPRINTS
A low-E (low emissivity) coating includes a multilayer overcoat designed for reducing fingerprints. The multilayer overcoat includes a layer comprising an oxide of zirconium (e.g., ZrO.sub.2) sandwiched between and contacting first and second layers of or including silicon nitride (e.g., Si.sub.3N.sub.4, SiO.sub.xN.sub.y, SiZrO.sub.xN.sub.y, or the like). The uppermost layer comprising silicon nitride modifies the surface energy of the layer comprising the oxide of zirconium so as to make the uppermost surface of the coating more hydrophilic, thereby reducing or minimizing interaction between zirconium oxide and finger oil to reduce fingerprints on the uppermost surface of the coating.
GLASS AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
A method of manufacturing a glass includes forming a first etch protection layer on a first surface of a glass substrate, and forming a second etch protection layer on a second surface of the glass substrate; removing a part of the first protection layer and a part of the second protection layer by applying a laser pulse penetrating the glass substrate from above the first surface of the glass substrate; forming a cut part in the glass substrate by etching the glass substrate using an etching solution; and removing the first etch protection layer and the second etch protection layer. The second surface is opposite to the first surface.
Single Element Light Folding Prism
An optical system for a camera may include a lens group having a one or more lenses, a prism, and an image sensor. The prism may be a single element light folding prism positioned between the lenses and the image sensor along the optical transmitting path of the light. The prism may be constructed from a single, monolithic piece of stock material and may include at least four surfaces, which may fold the light within the prism at least four times to guide the light from the one or more lenses passing through the prism to the image sensor. The prism may also include one or more aperture masks inside the prism to reduce flare.
Antifogging laminate
It is a main object of the present invention to impart higher antifogging properties to the hydrophilic material formed of a crosslinked resin, having a surface enriched with hydrophilic groups, previously proposed by the inventors. The laminate of the present invention includes a water absorbing layer (B) and a hydrophilic layer (A) provided in this order on a substrate, wherein the hydrophilic layer (A) is formed of a crosslinked resin having an anionic, cationic or nonionic hydrophilic group, and has a gradient of hydrophilic groups (intensity of hydrophilic group on surface of the hydrophilic layer (A)/intensity of hydrophilic group at ½ of thickness of the hydrophilic layer (A)) of not less than 1.1; and the water absorbing layer (B) is formed of a crosslinked resin having a water absorption rate per unit mass (g) of in the range of 5 to 500 wt %.
Film-to-glass switchable glazing
A privacy glazing structure may include an electrically controllable optically active material, such as a liquid crystal material, sandwiched between a flexible substrate and a rigid substrate. The flexible substrate and the rigid substrate may each have a conductive layer deposited on the surface facing the optically active material. The flexible substrate may be bonded about its perimeter to the rigid substrate and may be sufficiently flexible to conform to non-planarity of the rigid substrate. As a result, the flexible substrate may adopt the surface contour of the rigid substrate to maintain a uniform thickness of optically active material between the flexible substrate and the rigid substrate.
GLASS HAVING COLORED LAYER AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME
To provide glass including a colored layer and a manufacturing method thereof.
Provided is glass containing one or more glass components selected from the group consisting of Ti ions, Nb ions, W ions, and Bi ions. The glass includes a colored layer having an arbitrary shape.
