An acid gas absorption composition may generally comprise calcium oxide generally characterized by a specific surface area from 40-100 m.sup.2/g, a porous volume from 0.25-0.50 cm.sup.3/g within a pore diameter range up to 1200 Angstroms, more than 40% by weight of the composition of pores having a diameter from 100-400 Angstroms, and an acid gas mass absorption capacity of at least 4.5 grams of acid gas per 100 grams of composition. Methods of making and using the same are also described.

Method of manufacturing hydrated lime

A method of providing highly reactive hydrated lime and the resultant lime hydrate where an initial lime feed comprising calcium and impurities is first ground to a particle-size distribution with relatively coarse particles. Smaller particles are then removed from this ground lime and the smaller particles are hydrated, allowed to mature in a damp state, and flash dried to form a hydrated lime, which is then milled to a significantly smaller particle size than that of the relatively coarse particles.

High temperature hydrator

A method includes transferring at least one feed stream including calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, water, and a fluidizing gas into a fluidized bed; contacting the calcium oxide with the water; based on contacting the calcium oxide with the water, initiating a hydrating reaction; producing, from the hydrating reaction, calcium hydroxide and heat; transferring a portion of the heat of the hydrating reaction to the calcium carbonate; and fluidizing the calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide, and the calcium carbonate into a first fluidization regime and a second fluidization regime. The first fluidization regime includes at least a portion of the calcium carbonate and at least a portion of the calcium oxide, and the second fluidization regime includes at least a portion of the calcium hydroxide and at least another portion of the calcium oxide. The first fluidization regime is different than the second fluidization regime.

Ultra Fine Milk of Lime Composition

A composition of milk of lime comprising particles of slaked lime suspended in an aqueous phase, characterised in that said particles of slaked lime have a particle size described by a particle size distribution profile that is narrow and monomodal and the method of production thereof.

Process for manufacturing a milk of slaked lime of great fineness and milk of great fineness thereby obtained

A process is shown for manufacturing a milk of lime of great fineness which includes at least the steps of providing one lime compound chosen in the group consisting of prehydrated lime, a paste of lime obtained by addition of water to quicklime instead of addition of quicklime to water and their mixture, and forming a milk of slaked lime of great fineness with the chosen lime compound. The paste of lime is obtained by progressive addition of water to quicklime under agitation conditions.

RDPreheating water jackets

Process and apparatus is disclosed for providing a chemical reaction between calcium oxide containing grit particles to produce calcium hydroxide and heat, capturing the heat of hydration and using it to preheat water initially at ambient temperature, to rise to an elevated temperature to increase the amount of lime present in the water to a supersaturated lime suspension level, with the chemical reaction running to completion, followed by cooling. Heat from a water jacket may be used to raise the temperature in the lime slaker. A process and apparatus is also provided for dissolving scale on internal surfaces of a lime slaker, a lime aging tank, grit separation device and piping and dosing sub-systems, by adding acid into the system with rinse water. A pressurized delivery system that is substantially closed to the atmosphere delivers treating doses of slaked lime slurry under sufficient pressure conditions to maintain a relatively constant back pressure, by means of valving.
