Coated hollow and evacuated insulation spheres (CEIS)

An insulation medium invention includes a plurality of microspheres. Each microsphere comprises a porous core comprising a porous core material and having an exterior surface, a gas within the porous core, and a coating layer coating all of the exterior surface of the porous core. The coating layer comprises a coating material which transitions from a first state to a second state. In the first state, the coating material is permeable to the gas. In the second state the material is impermeable to the gas. The coating material in the second state is configured to encapsulate and maintain partial vacuum of the gas inside the porous core. In one embodiment, in the second state the coating is impermeable to air. Insulated structures, a method of making an insulation medium, a fluid storage media, and a method of delivering a fluid are also disclosed.

GEOPOLYMER FOAM FORMULATION

A method for producing a geopolymer foam is proposed, comprising providing a foamable formulation, foaming the formulation, and allowing the foamed formulation to harden. The foamable formulation comprises at least one inorganic binder selected from the group consisting of latent hydraulic binders, pozzolanic binders and mixtures thereof; at least one alkaline activator selected from the group consisting of alkali metal hydroxides, alkali metal carbonates, alkali metal aluminates, alkali metal silicates and mixtures thereof; at least one surfactant; nanocellulose and water. The mechanical properties of the foam are improved by incorporating nanocellulose.

Concrete having reduced surface drying time and cementitious compositions and methods for manufacturing same

Cementitious compositions and methods for preparing and using the cementitious compositions to yield hardened concrete. The cementitious compositions yield hardened concrete having reduced or attenuated water vapor emission and lower internal relative humidity (IRH). Cementitious compositions are characterized by the property of rapid surface drying while maintaining good workability, particularly when using porous lightweight aggregates that absorb substantial amounts of water. Methods of decreasing water availability and increasing surface drying of concrete, including lightweight concrete, are provided. A water soluble ionic salt may be used to sequester water within the pores and capillaries of the cement paste and/or porous lightweight aggreate by modifying the colligative propertie of pore water. The salt may be added directly to concrete or the concrete mix water, or, alternatively, aggregates may be infused with a water-salt solution to provide treated porous aggregates having improved water saturation and water retention.

Compositions of matter for use as a roof coating are provided. The roof coating can be applied to any suitable roof of any building. When applied to a roof, the roof coating insulates the building's interior from some of the sun's thermal energy, which would otherwise radiate into the building and raise the interior temperature. The roof coating can therefore reduce energy consumption involved in cooling the building's interior. The roof coating demonstrates advantageous thermal insulation properties (e.g., low thermal conductivity) over a wide range of temperatures and when applied with minimal thickness. The provided roof coating demonstrates high reflectance, high emissivity, low thermal conductivity, low flame spread, high solar reflectance index (SRI) in the range of 100 to 120, and acts as a sealer and waterproofer, which all contribute to its desirable properties for use as a thermally insulating roof coating.
