Vehicle wash system having a multi-speed car wash brush

A vehicle wash system includes a vehicle treatment area and an overhead frame portion supporting a rotational brush that is translatable relative to a vehicle disposed within the vehicle treatment area. The brush may rotate in the same rotational direction during a first translation direction and a second translation direction of the brush along the vehicle. During one direction of translation, the brush rotates at a first rotational speed, and in the opposite direction of translation, the brush rotates at increased rotational speed. The system may include a pair of side brushes, with the brushes rotating in opposite rotational directions, but maintaining their rotational directions during both directions of translation.

BRUSH ASSEMBLY

A brush assembly for treating a surface of a workpiece. The assembly has a housing, a brush holder rotatable on the housing about an axis, a ring brush carried on the holder and having an annular array of radially outwardly projecting bristles. The holder and brush are rotated about the axis and reciprocated.

Vehicle wash system with pivoting side brushes and method for avoiding vehicle antenna

A vehicle wash system includes a vehicle treatment area and an overhead frame portion supporting a pair of side brushes. The side brushes are configured to treat the lateral sides of the vehicle and may also treat the front and back of the vehicle. The side brushes are configured to pivot between a vertical position and an outwardly angled position, in which the side brushes are generally aligned with the side glass of the vehicle windows. The side brushes may travel along the side of the vehicle in both the vertical and pivoted orientations. The side brushes may make multiple passes along the side of the vehicle, and the side brushes may change orientation during or between passes to treat different segments of the vehicle. The side brushes may be oriented vertically at a location of a vehicle antenna to avoid the antenna.

Tool-Less Spring Attachment to C-Channel and Method of Using Same
20200182279 · 2020-06-11 ·

A method and device for attaching and detaching material to a c-channel groove, including attachment and detachment between first and second objects already attached to the groove. The device comprises a coil-shaped element that is resiliently compressible and connected to a desired material. Through biasing, the coil-shaped element is navigable into an aperture of the c-channel groove at a point along the c-channel groove between the ends of the c-channel groove and positionable such that at least a portion of the biased coil-shaped element is in the c-channel groove. Upon restoring the biased coil-shaped element toward a second, larger dimension, it is secured in the c-channel groove and the material connected to the coil-shaped element is attached to the c-channel groove, including between the first object and the second object, if present.

Vehicle wash component

A vehicle wash component includes a hub portion with a first hub section and a second hub section. The first hub section includes a first distal end and a first proximate end opposite the first distal end. The first hub section defines a first axis of rotation. The second hub section includes a second distal end and a second proximate end opposite the second distal end. The second hub section defines a second axis of rotation. A connector device rotatably couples the first hub section to the second hub section. An actuator is in communication with the first hub section to effectuate movement of the first distal end between a retracted position and an extended position. In the retracted position, the first axis of rotation and the second axis of rotation are parallel. In the extended position, the first axis of rotation is at a non-90 angle with respect to the second axis of rotation.

METHOD OF TREATING A WORKPIECE

A surface of a workpiece is treated by rotating about an axis a brush having a multiplicity of radially projecting bristles with tips engaging a surface of a workpiece to be treated while positioning a stop nonrotatable with the brush in engagement with the bristles radially inward of the stop so as to rearwardly deflect the bristles prior to contact with the workpiece and thereby store kinetic energy in the bristles so that as the bristles pass the stop the kinetic energy is released and the bristles spring elastically forward and percussively strike the workpiece surface. A roughness of the workpiece surface is determined and the stop is positioned radially relative to the axis or the brush is positioned relative to the workpiece at a spacing in accordance with the determined roughness.
