ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH, SYSTEM, BRUSHING SITE DETECTION METHOD, AND COMPUTER-READABLE RECORDING MEDIUM

An electric toothbrush includes a gyro sensor inside a main body. The gyro sensor detects an angular velocity of the main body and the main body includes a head portion, a neck portion, and a grip portion in a longitudinal axis direction. An angle formed by a longitudinal axis of the main body in a state that brush bristles of the head portion contact with a brushing site in a dentition with respect to the longitudinal axis of the main body in a state that the brush bristles of the head portion contact with a reference position in the dentition is obtained, based on an output from the gyro sensor. A corresponding point corresponding to the brushing site on an approximate curve that curves corresponding to the dentition is obtained based on the angle, and coordinates of the corresponding point are used as a translational position of the brushing site.

A powered brush has two different brushes for different purposes that are selectively vibrated for powered cleaning. The brushes may be a tooth brush and an interdental brush that are separately operated at different frequencies. One or more buttons or switches provide control signals to the powered brush to selectively actuate the different brushes. A controller connects a motor to a power source such as a battery based on the control signals. The controller may include a timer for actuating the selected brush for a given time period.

Power toothbrush with added inertia resonant system

An added inertia resonant system (12) for a power toothbrush (10) comprises a drive shaft (16), a drive system (22), and at least one inertial weight member (24). The drive shaft (16) has a principal axis (26) that defines a center of rotation. The drive system (22) imparts a reciprocating motion to the drive shaft (16) about the principal axis(26). The at least one inertial weight member (24) couples to the drive shaft (16) and comprises a planar material having a complex shape balanced along an x-, y-and z-axis to enable the drive system (22) to achieve low power, high amplitude motion of the drive shaft (16) when placed under user loading. A method for providing added inertia in a resonant system for a power toothbrush is also disclosed.
