Macro defect free cement with improved moisture resistance
A cementitious composition may include polyvinyl alcohol, high alumina cement, water, a metallic coagent, a peroxide crosslinking initiator, and an organic acid retardant. A molded article may be manufactured from the cementitious composition by preparing a hydrogel pre-polymer blend of saponified polyvinyl alcohol acetate (PVAA) with greater than or equal to approximately 85% saponified PVAA, and water, mixing the hydrogel pre-polymer blend with high alumina cement (HAC) using a high shear mixing process, mixing in a metallic coagent and a peroxide crosslinking initiator, mixing in an organic acid retardant, and hot press molding the mixture.
LIGNOSULFONATES AS VISCOSIFIERS
By adding a lignosulfonate preferably magnesium lignosulfonate to water and subjecting the mixture to shear a viscous fluid is created. The lignosulfonate increases the viscosity of the water at least to the point where the fluid is viscous enough to maintain the cement in a solution without free water yet not so viscous as to prevent the pumps from moving the viscous fluid slurry and thereby damaging the pumps. The fluid is sufficiently viscous to enable the fluid to conduct the cement slurry through the wellbore and into the formation without duning or otherwise allowing the cement to settle out. Additionally the fluid continues to remain viscous and retain the cement in slurry at temperatures in excess of 225 F.

STABLE PCE AND POLYSACCHARIDE VMA COMPOSITIONS FOR CONCRETE ADMIXTURES AND THEIR USES
The present invention provides aqueous compositions that are stable after at least a 24 hour period comprising a polysaccharide viscosity modifying additive and more than 60 wt. %, based on the weight of total solids in the compositions of one or more polycarboxylate ether, the compositions comprising an acid chosen from an organic acid having 1 hydroxy group or less, a strong acid containing a single hydrogen, an ascorbic acid, and mixtures thereof, the compositions having a pH of less than the pH of the polycarboxylate ether itself, or from 1.0 to 6.0. The present invention enables stable concentrates of aqueous polycarboxylate ethers and polysaccharide viscosity modifying agents for use in hydraulic binder applications, the compositions having a total solids content of 10 wt. % to as high as 65 wt. %.

FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE
A cement-based mixture comprises a polymeric fiber. The polymeric fiber may be obtained from a recycled vehicle tire. The cement-based mixture may comprise between 0.1% and 1.0% polymeric fiber by mass of cement. The cement-based mixture may comprise about 0.4% polymeric fiber by mass of cement. The cement-based mixture may be a mortar or a concrete. The polymeric fiber may be polyethylene-terephthalate.
