Coated-fine-aggregate, concrete composition and method
A concrete composition and method include a portion of fine aggregate bearing a coating of a polymer, which may be a continuous coating layer or a layer of powdered, discrete particles embedded in a binder. The polymeric coating may be a super absorbent polymer (insoluble in water, but absorbing water), or another polymer such as the acrylamides, co-polymers thereof, polyacrylamides, or the like (soluble in water). The coating absorbs water, but particles are too small to form significant voids. Water is absorbed into the concrete mix in far greater proportions (e.g. w/c ratio over 0.5) improving workability, doubling workability time, and improving ultimate compressive stress (strength).

Postponed onset of quicklime hydration
The present invention provides compositions and methods relative to controlling hydration onset of an alkaline earth metal oxide such as calcium oxide, comprising heating an inorganic alkaline earth metal oxide to sub-calcination temperatures in the presence of organic material comprising a carbohydrate, an amino-carboxylic acid, a hydroxycarboxylic acid, or a mixture thereof. Preferred treated particles comprise at least 40% and more preferably at least 80% by dry weight calcium oxide which is heated in the presence of ascorbic acid and a starch. Treated particles of the present invention manifest an unexpected, surprising hydration induction postponement behavior as demonstrated through calorimetric testing.

Multi-component inorganic anchoring system based on aluminous cement
A multi-component inorganic anchoring system, for chemical fastening of anchors and post-installed reinforcing bars in mineral substrates, includes a curable powdery aluminous cement component A and an initiator component B in an aqueous phase for initiating a curing process. Component A further includes calcium carbonate and component B includes an accelerator constituent and water. The calcium carbonate in component A has an average particle size in the range of from 0.5 to 150 m. Methods can be utilized for using calcium carbonate having an average particle size in the range of from 0.5 to 150 m in a multi-component inorganic anchoring system to increase load values. Methods can also be utilized for chemical fastening of anchors, such as metal anchors and post-installed reinforcing bars, in mineral substrates, such as structures made of brickwork, concrete, pervious concrete, or natural stone.
