FUNCTIONALIZED CERAMIC ARTICLE
The present invention relates to a method for additive manufacturing of a position sensitive colored ceramic article comprising: a) providing at least one flowable ceramic component; b) forming a green body by sequential deposition of the ceramic component provided in step a) and optionally a support material not intended to be part of the final article; c) position sensitive application of a coloring substance in a solvent to at least a part of the surface of the green body formed in step b), wherein the coloring substance is applied simultaneously to the sequential deposition; d) heat treatment or curing of at least a part of the green body surface obtained in step c); wherein the method steps a)-d) are at least performed once; e) optionally removing the support material from the green body; and f) sintering the green body to obtain the ceramic article; wherein the coloring substance is a dyestuff according to ISO 18451-1:2019(E). In addition, the present invention relates to a system adapted to perform the method and a control data set configured, when implemented in an additive manufacturing system, to cause the system to execute the steps of the inventive method.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING
An article includes a ceramic-based substrate and a barrier layer on the ceramic-based substrate. The barrier layer includes a matrix phase and a network of gettering particles in the matrix phase. The gettering particles have an average maximum dimension between about 30 and 70 microns. The gettering particles have maximum dimensions that range from about 1 to 100 microns, and a dispersion of barium-magnesium alumino-silicate particles in the matrix phase. A composite material and a method of applying a barrier layer to a substrate are also disclosed.
ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING
An article includes a ceramic-based substrate and a barrier layer on the ceramic-based substrate. The barrier layer includes a matrix phase and gettering particles in the matrix phase. The gettering particles with an aspect ratio greater than one are aligned such that a maximum dimension of the gettering particles extends along an axis that is generally parallel to the substrate. The barrier layer includes a dispersion of diffusive particles in the matrix phase. A composite material and a method of applying a barrier layer to a substrate are also disclosed.
CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY AND COATED CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY
A cubic boron nitride sintered body including cubic boron nitride and a binder phase, wherein a content of the cubic boron nitride is 40 volume % or more and 70 volume % or less; a content of the binder phase is 30 volume % or more and 60 volume % or less; an average particle size of the cubic boron nitride is 0.1 μm or more and 3.0 μm or less; the binder phase contains TiN and/or TiCN, and TiB.sub.2 and contains substantially no AIN and/or Al.sub.2O.sub.3, the binder phase has a TiB.sub.2 (101) plane that shows a maximum peak position (2θ) in X-ray diffraction of 44.2° or more; and I.sub.2/I.sub.1 is 0.10 or more and 0.55 or less, where denotes an X-ray diffraction intensity of a (111) plane of the cubic boron nitride and I.sub.2 denotes an X-ray diffraction intensity of a (101) plane of TiB.sub.2 of the binder phase.
CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY AND COATED CUBIC BORON NITRIDE SINTERED BODY
A cubic boron nitride sintered body including cubic boron nitride and a binder phase, wherein a content of the cubic boron nitride is 40 volume % or more and 80 volume % or less; a content of the binder phase is 20 volume % or more and 60 volume % or less; an average particle size of the cubic boron nitride is 0.5 μm or more and 4.0 μm or less; the binder phase contains TiC and TiB.sub.2 and contains substantially no AlN and/or Al.sub.2O.sub.3; a (101) plane of TiB.sub.2 in the binder phase shows a maximum peak position (2θ) in X-ray diffraction of 44.2° or more; and a (200) plane of TiC in the binder phase shows a maximum peak position (2θ) in X-ray diffraction of less than 42.1°.
Garnet materials for Li secondary batteries and methods of making and using garnet materials
Set forth herein are garnet material compositions, e.g., lithium-stuffed garnets and lithium-stuffed garnets doped with alumina, which are suitable for use as electrolytes and catholytes in solid state battery applications. Also set forth herein are lithium-stuffed garnet thin films having fine grains therein. Disclosed herein are novel and inventive methods of making and using lithium-stuffed garnets as catholytes, electrolytes and/or anolytes for all solid state lithium rechargeable batteries. Also disclosed herein are novel electrochemical devices which incorporate these garnet catholytes, electrolytes and/or anolytes. Also set forth herein are methods for preparing novel structures, including dense thin (<50 um) free standing membranes of an ionically conducting material for use as a catholyte, electrolyte, and, or, anolyte, in an electrochemical device, a battery component (positive or negative electrode materials), or a complete solid state electrochemical energy storage device. Also, the methods set forth herein disclose novel sintering techniques, e.g., for heating and/or field assisted (FAST) sintering, for solid state energy storage devices and the components thereof.
High temperature oxidation protection for composites
Systems and methods for forming an oxidation protection system on a composite structure are provided. In various embodiments, an oxidation protection system disposed on a substrate may comprise a boron-silicon-glass layer formed directly on the composite structure. The boron-silicon-glass layer may comprise a boron compound, a silicon compound, and a glass compound.
Barrier coating resin formulations, and related methods
A barrier coating resin formulation comprising at least one polycarbosilane preceramic polymer, at least one organically modified silicon dioxide preceramic polymer, at least one filler, and at least one solvent. An oxidation protection system disposed on a substrate is provided, which may comprise a boron layer comprising a boron compound disposed on the substrate; a silicon layer comprising a silicon compound disposed on the boron layer; and at least one sealing layer comprising monoaluminum phosphate and phosphoric acid disposed on the silicon layer.
