A skirt for a broom that has a handle, a head and bristles extending from the head with a connector on the head includes a fabric having properties selected to be attractive to dirt. The fabric has a size at least twice the area of one major face of the bristles of the broom and has connectors complementary to the connectors on the broom head, so the fabric may be wrapped over the bristles and fastened to the broom head by engagement of the fabric connectors with the connectors on the broom head. The connectors on the skirt are typically loop-type hook and loop fasteners, so they can engage hook-type hook and loop fasteners on the broom head.

MULTI-SURFACE CLEANING APPARATUS

A multi-surface cleaning apparatus is provided that includes a cylindrical dowel having an eccentrically-shaped body comprising first and second lobes. The body further comprises at least two arrays of differing sized bristle packets extending therefrom. The first array is configured for engaging a flat surface and the second array is configured for engaging a woven surface. First and second wheels are guided by a respective annular eccentric race formed by an inset and a boss in the race. The eccentrically-shaped body and the eccentrically shaped first and second races prevent the wheels from engaging a flooring surface when the first array is in contact with the floor and the eccentrically-shaped body and the eccentrically shaped first and second races allow the wheels to engage a flooring surface when the second array is in contact with the floor.

The double action push broom of the present invention includes a dynamic double action dual brush head and a broom handle. The dynamic double action dual brush head includes two brush heads rotatably attached to a brush head base, allowing the brush heads to independently rotate about the axis in which it is rotatably attached to the brush head base. A mechanical device capable of storing and releasing energy is connected between the two brush heads, which is rigidly attached to the brush head base. The double action push broom stores kinetic energy in the form of potential energy in the mechanical energy storage device of the dynamic double action dual brush head during the sweeping stroke of the double action push broom. At the end of the sweeping stroke, the stored potential energy is converted into kinetic energy and rotates the dual brush, thereby providing an additional sweeping motion.
