Disclosed embodiments concern a composition comprising a diatom frustule and two or more photocatalytic nanoparticles dispersed on the surface of the frustule. Also disclosed are embodiments of a method for making the composition. The nanoparticles are dispersed such that they are separate and not in physical contact with each other. An average distance between the nanoparticles may be from greater than 0 nm to 100 nm. The nanoparticles may comprise a dopant material. Paint compositions comprising the diatom frustule compositions are also contemplated. The diatom frustule composition may be useful for removing and/or degrading volatile organic compounds, such as those present in the atmosphere.

A building with ultra-stable cementitious material with nano-molecular veneer has 29 wt % to 40 wt % of a magnesium oxide dry powder containing 80 wt % to 98 wt % of magnesium oxide based on a final total weight of the cementitious material, 14 wt % to 18 wt % of a magnesium chloride dissolved in water and reacting to form a liquid suspension, a phosphorus-containing material, and wherein the mixture forms a liquid suspension that reacts into an amorphous phase cementitious material, wherein a portion of the amorphous phase cementitious material grows a plurality of crystals. The plurality of crystals are encapsulated by the amorphous phase cementitious material forming a nano-molecular veneer and a wall material that is affixed to a frame of a building.

Environmental resistant coating member

An environmental resistant coating member includes a SiC long fiber-reinforced ceramics substrate and an environmental barrier coating layer provided on the whole surface of the SiC long fiber-reinforced ceramics substrate. The environmental barrier coating layer includes a SiAlON bonding layer laminated on the SiC long fiber-reinforced ceramics substrate, a mullite layer laminated on the SiAlON bonding layer, a reaction inhibition layer laminated on the mullite layer, and a gradient layer formed on the reaction inhibition layer that gradually changes from a rare-earth disilicate to a rare-earth monosilicate. The reaction inhibition layer includes at least one of an alumina layer, a garnet layer, and a rare-earth (mono)silicate layer. When the reaction inhibition layer includes two or more of these layers, the layers are formed in the order of the alumina layer, the garnet layer, and the rare-earth (mono)silicate layer from a mullite layer side toward a gradient layer side.

Cementitious Composition With High Bond Strength To Both Asphalt And Cement Based Materials
20200407276 · 2020-12-31 ·

A hydratable cement composition which will bond to both asphalt and cementitious substrates is supplied for the repair of various surfaces. The composition comprises of a combination of Portland cement, calcium sulfoaluminate cement or calcium aluminosilicate, and an alkali metal salt activated pozzolonic powder, wherein the Portland cement content of the hydratable portion of the composition is greater than 20%. The composition is free from latex bonding agents and calcium aluminate. The composition is mixed with water to form a typical cement, mortar, or concrete consistency, placed and allowed to cure. The result is a self-adhering patch to damaged surfaces. The hydratable cement composition may also be used to fabricate items of original construction by casting into molds or forms.

IMPROVEMENT OF STUCCO PROPERTIES THROUGH AGING AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY LEVEL

The invention pertains to a method for stabilizing stucco wherein a fresh stucco is provided; water is added to the fresh stucco to obtain moistened stucco, and the moistened stucco is maintained at a temperature of at least 30 C. for a time interval of at least 30 minutes to obtain a stabilized stucco.

The process allows inter alia for an easy adjustment of the activity of the stabilized stucco, which is useful to e.g. adjust setting time of a corresponding stucco slurry. The invention further pertains to a method for producing gypsum plasterboards, wherein a stabilized stucco obtained with the above method is used.

Method of spectrally camouflaging a structure with a surrounding environment
10851547 · 2020-12-01 ·

Disclosed are methods to produce composite materials, which contain customized mixes of nano- and/or micro-particles with tailored electromagnetic spectral properties. In some defense-related applications, the use of such materials enables an improved spectral match between different structures, such as vehicles or buildings with the surrounding environment at least in the VIS and NIR wavelength range. This can camouflage the structures, and reduce the detectability thereof by ground-, air- or space-based multi-spectral long-range imaging systems, including aircrafts, drones, and satellites, and thus, generally delay, complicate, or eliminate detection or classification of the camouflaged structures.
