CERAMIC SCINTILLATOR FIBER
A method is for the production of a scintillator fiber. In an embodiment, the method includes provisioning a suspension of a binder dissolved in a solvent and a scintillator material; and pressing the suspension into a precipitation bath in which the binder is insoluble.
Method of making a dental restoration
A method of making a monolithic dental restoration. The method includes the steps of providing a monolithic precursor of a dental restoration and firing the monolithic dental restoration precursor to provide the monolithic dental restoration. The zirconia material of both the dental restoration precursor as well as the dental restoration has a relative density of greater than 98% of the theoretic density of the zirconia material. The invention helps providing a color of a non-glazed dental restoration which resembles the color of a glazed dental restoration.
Ceramic seal component for gas turbine engine and process of making the same
A ceramic brush seal for a gas turbine engine, and a process for manufacturing the seal are provided. In one example, the process includes deinfiltrating an edge of a plurality of plies having a preimpregnated configuration. The edge is defined by a plurality of ceramic fibers extending away from a portion edge of a matrix infiltrated portion of each of the plies. In another example, the process includes masking an edge of a plurality of plies, the edge being defined by a plurality of ceramic fibers extending away from a portion edge of a body portion of each of the plies, and infiltrating the body portion of the plurality of plies with a ceramic matrix slurry. The plies are stacked, formed into a green body and then fired to form the component. The plies may include oxide/oxide woven ceramic fiber plies.
Method of fabricating high light transmission zirconia blanks for milling into natural appearance dental appliances
A process for fabricating pre-sintered zirconia blanks that are then computer machined and sintered to form dental appliances having highly advantageous features. The principal steps of a preferred embodiment of that process comprise; a) preparing a ceramic slurry of zirconia powder; b) subjecting the slurry to attrition milling down to about a 5-29 nm crystallite size; c) preparing a vacuum assisted and pressure assisted slip casting mold and pouring the milled slurry into the slip-casting mold; d) after casting, excess slurry is poured from the mold and a consolidated zirconia blank is removed; e) drying the blank and pre-sintering it to form solid blanks ready for CAD/CAM machining and sintering to net shape. The attrition is run with ball bearings that are of the sample material to prevent contamination. It also is run, up to 24 hours, to break down the crystallites to overcome the high density of zirconia.
Metal oxide ceramic nanomaterials and methods of making and using same
Provided are metal oxide ceramic materials and intermediate materials thereof (e.g., nanozirconia gels, nanozirconia green bodies, pre-sintered ceramic bodies, zirconia dental ceramic materials, and dental articles). The nanozirconia gels are formable gels. Also provided are methods of making and using the metal oxide materials and intermediate materials. The nanozirconia gels can be made using, for example, osmotic processing. The nanozirconia gels can be used to make nanozirconia green bodies, pre-sintered ceramic bodies, zirconia dental ceramic materials, and dental article. The nanozirconia green bodies, pre-sintered ceramic bodies, zirconia dental ceramic materials, and dental articles have desirable properties (e.g., optical properties and mechanical properties).
HIGH DENSITY CARBON-CARBON FRICTION MATERIALS
A technique of forming a carbon-carbon composite that includes infiltrating a preform comprising carbon fibers or carbon-precursor fibers with a pitch and pyrolyzing the pitch using a controlled pressure and temperature ramp rate to control a growth of optical textures as the pitch is pyrolyzed to a coke matrix. Pyrolyzing the pitch may include initiating pyrolysis of at least some of the pitch at a first pressure less than about 2000 psi and a first temperature ramp rate between about 5 ° C./hr and about 50 ° C./hr to a first target temperature, and pyrolyzing at least some of the pitch at a second pressure greater than 2000 psi and a second temperature ramp rate between about 5 ° C./hr and about 50 ° C./hr to a second target temperature, where the second target temperature is greater than the first target temperature.
METHOD TO MANUFACTURE A COLORED BLANK, AND BLANK
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a colored blank, which contains zirconium dioxide and is intended for the manufacture of a dental restoration, whereby raw materials in powder form, at least some of which contain one coloring substance each, are mixed with, zirconium dioxide as the main ingredient, the resulting mixture is pressed and subsequently subjected to at least one thermal treatment. To generate the desired fluorescence, it is intended that in the raw materials in powder form one uses as coloring substances at least terbium, erbium, cobalt, as well as one substance that generates a fluorescence effect in the dental restoration, however not iron, aside from naturally occurring impurities.
ADVANCED MATERIAL FOR MOLTEN METAL PROCESSING EQUIPMENT
A molten metal processing apparatus selected from a pump, a degasser, a flux injector, and a scrap submergence device constructed to include at least one element comprised of C/C composite.
CMC component arrangement and method of manufacture
A method of manufacturing a component includes forming an inner wrap about a mandrel. The inner wrap has first and second walls joined by a base portion and an outer wall. A rod is arranged at each of the first and second walls. An outer wrap is formed about the inner wrap and the rods to form a body. Features are formed in the first and second walls.
Carbon ceramic brake disc and method for manufacturing the same
A carbon ceramic brake disc according to the present invention includes: a support body having cooling channels at the center portion; and friction layers directly attached to the top and the bottom of the support body without a bonding layer and having components different from the components of the support body, in which the support body is composed of a plurality of layers having components similar to the friction layers, gradually toward the friction layers from the cooling channels as the center. Accordingly, the support body can perform thermomechanical shock absorbing that is an original function and the friction layers and the support body can be prevented from separating while the carbon ceramic brake disc is manufactured.
