The invention relates to processes for preparing benzoprostacyclin analogues and intermediates prepared from the process, and the benzoprostacyclin analogues prepared therefrom. The invention also relates to cyclopentenone intermediates in racemic or optically active form.

The invention provides compounds of Formula (I), and their use in methods for treating or preventing a protozoan infection in a subject using a compound of Formula (I). The invention also provides the use of a compound of Formula (I) in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of a protozoan infection in a subject. Disclosed are a deuterated compound of fomula (I), or a salt thereof, and methods for preparation thereof. The present disclosure may provide a mild, versatile organophotoredox method for the preparation of diverse, enantioenriched α-deuterated α-amino acids. In particular, the present disclosure may address the long-standing challenge of installing sterically demanding side chains into α-amino acids, including late-stage modifications on medicinal agents and natural products.
