Particularly, the present invention provides pharmaceutical compounds for inhibiting ion transport by a voltage-gated ion channel in a subject in need thereof. In certain embodiments of the invention, the ion is a proton and the voltage-gated ion channel is a voltage gated proton channel such as Hv1. The invention further provides methods of administering a therapeutically effective amount of the pharmaceutical compounds to a subject to block the proton transport by a voltage-gated proton channel such as Hv1.
