Photochromic compounds

A photochromic compound is provided, which may be a pyran, an oxazine, or a fulgide. The photochromic compound has at least one substituent Q attached thereto, each Q independently being N.sub.3, CN, COOR, CCR, C(R)C(R)R, OCOR, OCOOR, SR, OSO.sub.2R, and/or CON(R)R, wherein each R is hydrogen, an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms; an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group, an unsubstituted or substituted alkene or alkyne group having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms, wherein the substituents are halo or hydroxyl and R is CF.sub.3 or a perfluorinated alkyl group having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms The number, locations and nature of the constituents Q are dependent upon the structure of the photochromic compound.

SEMI-PERMANENT TATTOOS

The present disclosure relates to semi-permanent tattoos, for example, compositions comprising semi-permanent colorants and semi-permanent colorant precursors that include derivatives of genipin and lawsone. In some embodiments, the composition comprises: a semi-permanent colorant present in an amount of about 10% to about 20% w/w of the composition; a solvent present in an amount of about 65% to about 80% w/w of the composition; and a thickening agent present in an amount of 0.01% to about 0.3% w/w of the composition. In some embodiments, the composition further includes one or more of a film-forming agent, a humectant, and a preservative.

SEMI-PERMANENT TATTOOS

The present disclosure relates to semi-permanent tattoos, for example, compositions comprising semi-permanent colorants and semi-permanent colorant precursors that include derivatives of genipin and lawsone. In some embodiments, the composition comprises: a semi-permanent colorant present in an amount of about 10% to about 20% w/w of the composition; a solvent present in an amount of about 65% to about 80% w/w of the composition; and a thickening agent present in an amount of 0.01% to about 0.3% w/w of the composition. In some embodiments, the composition further includes one or more of a film-forming agent, a humectant, and a preservative.

NEPETALACTOL OXIDOREDUCTASES, NEPETALACTOL SYNTHASES, AND MICROBES CAPABLE OF PRODUCING NEPETALACTONE

The present disclosure provides isolated nepetalactone oxidoreductase polypeptides (NORs), nepetalactol synthases (NEPSs), and related polynucleotides, engineered host cells, and cultures, as well as methods for producing NORs and NEPSs, and for using them to produce nepetalactol, nepetalactone, and dihydronepetalactone. The present disclosure also provides methods for engineering cells (e.g., microbial cells) to produce nepetalactone from a fermentation substrate such as glucose, as well as engineered cells having this capability and related cultures and methods for producing nepetalactone.

A photochromic composition containing one or more compounds represented by General Formula A and one or more compounds represented by General Formula B. In General Formula A, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, B.sup.1, and B.sup.2 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and R.sup.3 to R.sup.6 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an electron-withdrawing group, provided that one or more of R.sup.3 to R.sup.6 represent an electron-withdrawing group. In General Formula B, R.sup.7 to R.sup.12, B.sup.3, and B.sup.4 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and R.sup.13 and R.sup.14 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an electron-donating group, provided that one or more of R.sup.13 and R.sup.14 represent an electron-donating group.
