Synthetic intermediates for novel cannabinoids and cannabinoid acids and their derivatives
The present invention relates to intermediate compounds for the synthesis of novel cannabinoids 1 and 2, synthesized from simple starting materials using a cascade sequence of allylic rearrangement, aromatization and, for tetracyclic cannabinoids, further highly stereoselective and regioselective cyclization. These synthesized cannabinoids can more easily be obtained at high purity levels than cannabinoids isolated or synthesized via known methods. The cannabinoids 2 are obtained containing very low levels of isomeric cannabinoids such as the undesirable Δ.sup.8-tetrahydrocannabinol. The analogues with variation in aromatic ring substituents, whilst easily synthesized with the new methodology, would be much more difficult to make from any of the components of cannabis oil. ##STR00001##
Novel compounds of the formulas 3 and 6, useful as intermediates for the synthesis of the cannabinoids of advanced intermediates 4 and 5 as well as cannabinoids of the formulas 1 and 2, are disclosed. ##STR00002##
Sulfonium compound, chemically amplified resist composition, and patterning process
A novel sulfonium compound of formula (A) and a chemically amplified resist composition comprising the same as a PAG are provided. When processed by photolithography using KrF or ArF excimer laser, EB or EUV, the resist composition has a high sensitivity and reduced acid diffusion and is improved in lithography properties. ##STR00001##

TUNED SYNTHETIC DENDRIMER CALIBRANTS FOR MASS SPECTROMETRY
Provided are synthetic dendrimer calibrants for mass spectrometry. The calibrants are distinguished by their relative case and rapidity of synthesis, comparatively low cost, long shelf life, high purity, and amenability to batch synthesis as mixtures. The latter characteristic enables parallel preparation of higher molecular weight compounds displaying useful distributions of discrete molecular weights, thereby providing multi-point mass spectrometry calibration standards. Methods of making, tuning and using said calibrants are provided.

LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOUND CONTAINING DIFLUORMETHOXY BRIDGE, COMPOSITION AND APPLICATION THEREOF
The invention relates to a liquid crystal compound having the structure of formula I wherein R is selected from the group consisting of H and alkyl or alkoxy groups of 1 to 12 carbon atoms in which one or more H are unsubstituted or substituted with halogen; A.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of a single bond or a 1,4-phenylene group in which each H in the 1,4-phenylene group is independently substituted by one or more halogen atoms; L.sub.1 and L.sub.2 are each independently selected from H or halogen; Z.sub.1 is a single bond or —(CH.sub.2).sub.2—. The compound has advantages of low rotational viscosity, large dielectric anisotropy, good mutual solubility and stability, which can be added to LC composition to reduce the driving voltage of the display. Thus, the novel compound has prosperous applications in LCD industry.
