Composition and method for activating latent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
Provided are compositions and methods for activating latent Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The compositions and methods may utilize a recombinant peptide that has a DNA binding zinc finger domain specific to the HIV long terminal repeat (LTR) sequence. The recombinant peptide may also have a transcription factor (e.g. a transcription activator) that is conjugated to the zinc finger domain. Also provided are methods of treating HIV in a subject in need of the treatment. The method may involve activation of latent HIV in cells of the subject and selectively removing such cells from the subject, providing complete and effective treatment of HIV.
Fc-gamma receptor mutants
The present disclosure relates to a polypeptide including an Fc-gamma receptor mutant. The Fc-gamma receptor mutant of the present disclosure is optimized by substituting a part of an amino acid sequence of an Fc-gamma receptor with a different amino acid sequence, so as to provide an excellent selective binding ability to immunoglobulins. Therefore, it can be usefully used for increasing in vivo half-life of drugs, detecting and purifying immunoglobulins, inhibiting organ transplant rejections, or preventing or treating autoimmune diseases.
In vitro glycosylation of proteins and enzymes
The present invention is broadly concerned with new in vitro glycosylation methods that provide rational approaches for producing glycosylated proteins, and the use of glycosylated proteins. In more detail, the present invention comprises methods of glycosylating a starting protein having an amino sidechain with a nucleophilic moiety, comprising the step of reacting the protein with a carbohydrate having an oxazoline moiety on the reducing end thereof, to covalently bond the amino sidechain of the starting protein with the oxazoline moiety, wherein the glycosylated protein substantially retains the structure and function of the starting protein. Target proteins include oxidase, oxidoreductase and dehydrogenase enzymes. The glycosylated proteins advantageously have molecular weights of at least about 7500 Daltons. In a further embodiment, the present invention concerns the use of glycosylated proteins, fabricated by the methods disclosed herein, in the assembly of amperometric biosensors.

IN VITRO GLYCOSYLATION OF PROTEINS AND ENZYMES
The present invention is broadly concerned with new in vitro glycosylation methods that provide rational approaches for producing glycosylated proteins, and the use of glycosylated proteins. In more detail, the present invention comprises methods of glycosylating a starting protein having an amino sidechain with a nucleophilic moiety, comprising the step of reacting the protein with a carbohydrate having an oxazoline moiety on the reducing end thereof, to covalently bond the amino sidechain of the starting protein with the oxazoline moiety, wherein the glycosylated protein substantially retains the structure and function of the starting protein. Target proteins include oxidase, oxidoreductase and dehydrogenase enzymes. The glycosylated proteins advantageously have molecular weights of at least about 7500 Daltons. In a further embodiment, the present invention concerns the use of glycosylated proteins, fabricated by the methods disclosed herein, in the assembly of amperometric biosensors.

Methods for the rapid elimination of carbon monoxide (CO) from CO-bound hemoglobin, myoglobin and cytochrome c oxidase in subjects with CO poisoning are described. The disclosed therapy involves the use of rationally designed, modified, regulator of CO metabolism (RcoM) proteins and pharmaceutical compositions thereof, which scavenge carbon monoxide from poisoned tissue. The recombinant RcoM compositions are infused into blood, where they rapidly sequester carbon monoxide and limit the toxic effects of carbon monoxide on cellular respiration, oxygen transport and oxygen utilization.
