Auxiliaries for olefin polymerization process

A method of forming polymerization auxiliaries for a polymerization process may include combining an antifouling agent with a killer agent to form an auxiliary composition; and contacting the auxiliary composition with an alkylaluminum. An antifouling complex may be produced by combining an antifouling agent with a killer agent to form an auxiliary composition; and contacting the auxiliary composition with an alkylaluminum.

SYNERGISTIC ANTIFOULANT COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME

Polymerization inhibitor compositions are provided. The polymerization inhibitor compositions include at least a first inhibitor compound having a stable nitroxide radical and a second inhibitor compound having a hydroxylamine. Methods of inhibiting the polymerization of monomers using the compositions of the disclosure are also provided. The methods of inhibiting polymerization of monomers include a step of adding a composition of the disclosure to the monomer. In some instances, the monomer is an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. Such ethylenically unsaturated monomers include, but are not limited to, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile, acrylates, methacrylates, 1,3-butadiene, styrene, isoprene, (meth)acrylic acid, and combinations thereof. Methods of preparing the polymerization inhibitors and compositions of the disclosure are also provided.

Production of 1-butene and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene

A system and method for producing 1-butene and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), including feeding a catalyst, an antifouling co-catalyst, and ethylene to a reactor, and dimerizing ethylene into 1-butene and polymerizing a relatively small portion of the ethylene into UHMWPE. A product slurry including 1-butene and UHMWPE is discharged from reactor and UHMWPE is removed from the product slurry as a coproduct of the product 1-butene. The coproduct UHMWPE may be a byproduct that is a relatively small amount of the product slurry. The quantity of UHMWPE produced may be small in comparison to the quantity of 1-butene produced.

Systems and methods for mitigating polymer fouling

Techniques and systems for reducing fouling in a polymerization system are described. The polymerization system includes a reactor coupled to a recycle system. The recycle system includes at least one fouling-susceptible unit. The technique includes inducing polymerization of a reactant, for example, at least one olefin monomer reactant, with a catalyst in the reactor. The technique may further include circulating a fluidizing stream through the reactor and the at least one fouling-susceptible unit. The fluidizing stream may include entrained particles tending to foul the at least one fouling-susceptible unit. The technique can further include contacting the fluidizing stream with a catalyst poison at at least one location upstream of the at least one fouling-susceptible unit in the recycle system.
