Provided is a method for producing a fluoropolymer aqueous dispersion containing a fluoropolymer, the method comprising polymerizing a fluoromonomer in a reactor in the presence of a fluorine-containing surfactant, a polymerization initiator, and an aqueous medium to prepare an aqueous dispersion containing a fluoropolymer; subjecting the aqueous dispersion to a heat treatment; adding a nonionic surfactant to the heat-treated aqueous dispersion; bringing the aqueous dispersion containing the nonionic surfactant into contact with an ion exchange resin; and concentrating the aqueous dispersion obtained after contact with the ion exchange resin.
