In the present disclosure, there are provided a vinyl alcohol-based copolymer including a first repeating unit derived from an olefin, a second repeating unit containing a hydroxyl group, and a third repeating unit containing a cyanoalkyloxy group formed by a reaction of the repeating unit containing a hydroxyl group and an unsaturated nitrile-based compound, wherein the third repeating unit is included in an amount of 2 mol % or more and less than 10 mol % with respect to 100 mol % of a total amount of the second repeating unit and the third repeating unit; a method for preparing the same; and a gas barrier film including the same. The vinyl alcohol-based copolymer has excellent moisture stability, thereby exhibiting excellent gas barrier properties even in a humid environment.

The present invention relates to a polymer obtained by radical polymerization of a mixture of monomers comprising: at least one anionic monomer (a) having a polymerizable vinyl function; at least one non-ionic hydrophobic monomer (b) having a polymerizable vinyl function; and one or more crosslinking monomer(s) (c) including at least one compound of formula (I) in which R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, n is zero or an integer from 1 to 30, and R.sub.1 is a linear or branched C.sub.1-C.sub.20 alkylene group. The binder includes a first copolymer unit including a carboxyl group-containing acrylic monomer and at least one of an acrylic acid derivative monomer and a substituted or unsubstituted styrene and a second copolymer unit including a residue of a polymer azo initiator. A mass ratio of the second copolymer unit relative to a total mass of the first copolymer unit and the second copolymer unit is 10 mass % to 40 mass %.
