Process or preparing organic solvent-based dispersions, coating compositions and coated metal substrate useful for packaging applications
The invention relates to a process for preparing an organic solvent-based dispersion comprising a melt-blended network of an epoxy-functional and/or amino-functional polymer having a polymer-OSiO-polymer linkage and a polyolefin (co)polymer having carboxylic acid and/or carboxylic acid anhydride groups, the process comprising the steps of a) forming the melt-blended network from a prepolymer, a silane-functional compound and the polyolefin (co)polymer in the absence of a solvent, b) mixing the melt-blended network with an organic solvent to make the organic solvent-based dispersion, and c) cooling the organic solvent-based dispersion. The invention further relates to a coating composition and to a coated metal substrate.
Sustainable Copolyester Elastomer Compositions with Improved Color Capability
Thermoplastic compositions include: a copolyester elastomer including a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) moiety and an elastomer moiety: and from greater than 0.1 wt % to 9 wt % of at least one brightening agent. The copolyester elastomer is formed according to a process including (1) forming the PBT moiety from a high purity terephthalic moiety: and (2) polymerizing the PBT moiety with the elastomer moiety to form the copolyester elastomer, wherein the high purity terephthalic moiety is derived from post-consumer, pre-consumer or post-industrial recycled (PCR) polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The PBT moiety includes PBT derived from post-consumer, pre-consumer or post-industrial recycled (PCR) polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the high purity terephthalic moiety has a purity of at least about 95%, and the thermoplastic composition has an L* color value of at least 80 as determined according to a CIELab color space standard. Methods for forming the copolymer elastomer and compositions including it are also described.
Functionalized polyester polymers and film articles
Polyester polymers are described comprising polymerized units comprising a hydroxy functional aromatic group wherein the hydroxy group has been functionalized with an adhesion promoting group. In some embodiments, the polyester polymer comprises polymerized units have the general structure (A) wherein L.sub.1 and L.sub.2 are independently divalent linking groups comprising an ester group; and R.sub.A is an adhesion promoting group bonded to the oxygen atom by means of an ionic or covalent bond. In other embodiments, film articles, laminates are described and methods of making functionalized polyester polymers are described. ##STR00001##
