Hyperbranched Polylactide Resin Compositions
Polylactide resins are branched by reaction with a mixture of a polyene compound and a cyclic peroxide. This branching method produces a product that has a very high polydispersity, a high branching number (B.sub.n) and excellent melt strength, without forming large amounts of gelled material. The branched polylactide resins are useful in many melt processing operations, in particular sheet and film extrusion, extrusion foaming, extrusion coating and fiber processing. They are characterized by easy processing and allow for broadened processing windows.

Catalysts
The present invention relates to the field of polymerisation catalysts, and systems comprising these catalysts for polymerising carbon dioxide and an epoxide, a lactide and/or lactone, and/or an epoxide and an anhydride. The catalyst is of formula (I): ##STR00001##
wherein at least one of M.sub.1 or M.sub.2 is selected from Ni(II) and Ni(III)-X. A process for the reaction of carbon dioxide with an epoxide; an epoxide and an anhydride; and/or a lactide and/or a lactone in the presence of the catalyst is also described.
Recyclable polymers based on ring-fused gamma-butyrolactones
The invention discloses a class of new polymers, trans-ring-fused poly(4-hydroxybutyrate)s (RF-P4HB) that exhibit a unique set of properties, including robust thermal stability and mechanical strength, quantitative recyclability to the building block monomers via thermolysis and/or chemical catalysis, and convenient production from the chemical ring-opening polymerization under ambient temperature and pressure. Another unique property is the formation of crystalline stereocomplexed polymers with high melting temperature upon mixing the two enantiomeric RF-P4HB chains via stereocomplexing co-crystallization. This invention also provides the corresponding ring-fused lactone monomer structures that enable the synthesis of the RF-P4HB polymers, through trans-fusing of rings to the parent -butyrolactone ring. Furthermore, a polymerization or copolymerization process for the synthesis of RF-P4HB polymers and copolymers is disclosed.

COPOLYESTER TAPE
The present invention relates to a tape comprising a composition comprising a copolyester comprising polymeric units derived from ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid or a diester thereof and >0.50 and <5.00 wt % of polymeric units with regard to the total weight of the polyester derived from an oligomeric dihydroxy compound having a number average molecular weight of >500 g/mol and <5000 g/mol. Such tape has an improved tensile-impact strength and a reduced proneness to splitting during weaving.
BLOCK COPOLYMERS OF LACTONES AND POLY(PROPYLENE FUMARATE)
In various embodiments, the present invention provides well-defined biodegradable poly(lactone-b-propylene fumarate) diblock and triblock polymers formed using a novel one-pot, scalable ring-opening block-order copolymerization (ROBOCOP) technique that utilizes magnesium 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenoxide (Mg(BHT).sub.2(THF).sub.2) to switch from the ROP of cyclic esters to the ROCOP of maleic anhydride (MAn) and propylene oxide (PO) to produce PPF based block copolymers for application in additive manufacturing and patient specific regenerative medicine. These block copolymers are fully resorbable and can be photochemically crosslinked in a number of applications, including 3D printing. By adding the lactone block to the PPF polymer, the viscosity of the resulting block copolymer at working temperatures can be precisely controlled and the quantity of the reactive diluent in printable resins can be reduced or eliminated.
