Polymers functionalized with brønsted acid groups

Porous aromatic framework polymers functionalized with Brnsted acid moieties are prepared by polymerization of a three-dimensional organic aryl or heteroaryl monomer and its copolymerization with a second aryl or heteroaryl monomer functionalized with one or more Brnsted acid moiety. The polymers are characterized by a stable three-dimensional structure, which, in exemplary embodiments, includes interpenetrating subunits within one or more domain of the bulk polymer structure. The polymers are of use in methods of adsorbing ammonia and amines and in devices and systems configured for this purpose.

NOVEL ALIPHATIC CHAIN-CONTAINING POLY(ALKYL-ARYL PIPERIDINIUM) POLYMER IONOMER, ANION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE, COMPOSITE MEMBRANE, AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREFOR

The present disclosure relates to the synthesis of a poly (alkyl-co-aryl piperidinium) polymer, which has no aryl-ether bond in the polymer backbone, contains an aliphatic chain in a repeating unit and has a piperidinium group introduced therein, and to the preparation of an anion exchange membrane and a composite membrane using the same. The anion exchange membrane and the composite membrane according to the present disclosure have superior alkaline stability and mechanical properties and very high ion conductivity. Furthermore, they reduce the phenyl adsorption effect of an electrode catalyst and exhibit high water permeability and power density as well as excellent durability. Thus, they can be applied to membranes and binders for alkaline fuel cells or water electrolysis.

SUPERHYDROPHOBIC SOLID CONTACT ION-SELECTIVE ELECTRODES
20180128770 · 2018-05-10 ·

A solid contact ion-selective electrode with a substantially hydrophobic solid contact. Tetradecyl-substituted poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT-C.sub.14) with tetrakispentafluorophenyl borate (TPFPhB) as counter ion can be used as the hydrophobic solid contact, in combination with various sensing membranes used in ion-selective electrodes. Other PEDOT derivatives that can be used include, but are not limited to, PEDOT-C.sub.12, PEDOT-C.sub.10, PEDOT-C.sub.8, or PEDOT-C.sub.4. Other counter ions that can be used include tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl) borate, tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate, and heptadecafluorooctanesulfonate (HDFOS).

Method of forming a polymer comprising a conjugated backbone

A method of forming a polymer comprising a conjugated backbone and side-groups pendant from the conjugated backbone wherein the method comprises the steps of: polymerizing one or more monomers to form a precursor polymer comprising the conjugated backbone and precursor groups pendant from the conjugated backbone, and subsequently converting the precursor groups to the side-groups.
