DUAL-CURING COATING COMPOSITIONS
The present invention relates to polymerizable compositions which contain components that can be crosslinked both via isocyanurate bonds and by a radical reaction mechanism. The invention further relates to methods by way of which polymers can be produced from said compositions.
Expanded rubber articles
Expanded rubber articles and processes for making such, comprising: partially curing an expandable rubber formulation by heating it in a first mould cavity to form a moulded blank; releasing the moulded blank from the first mould cavity and allowing the moulded blank to expand to form an expanded moulded blank; and further curing and expanding the expanded moulded blank by heating it to form the expanded rubber article comprising an expanded rubber part, wherein the expanded moulded blank is heated in a second mould cavity. Optionally, the expanded moulded blank is contacted with a further rubber formulation and a substrate comprising a base material and an elastomer bonding layer in the second mould cavity to form an expanded rubber article additionally comprising a solid rubber part and a substrate.
METHODS OF FORMING MODIFIED THERMOPLASTIC STRUCTURES FOR DOWN-HOLE APPLICATIONS, AND RELATED DOWN-HOLE TOOLS
A method of forming a modified thermoplastic structure for a down-hole application comprises forming a thermoplastic structure comprising at least one thermoplastic material formulated for crosslinking using an electron beam process. The thermoplastic structure is exposed to at least one electron beam to crosslink polymer chains of the thermoplastic structure. Other methods of forming a modified thermoplastic structure, and a down-hole tool are also described.
Latent two-part polyurethane adhesives curable with infrared radiation
Disclosed are latent two-part polyurethane adhesives that rapidly develop adhesive strength when cured by application of infrared radiation containing a polyol component which includes; one or more polyols having a hydroxyl equivalent weight of 400 to 2000 and a nominal hydroxyl functionality of 2 to 4; one or more aliphatic diol chain extenders; and one or more latent room temperature organometallic catalysts; b) a polyisocyanate component containing one or more polyisocyanate compounds; and v) a carboxylic acid-blocked cyclic amidine compound and vi) a phenol-blocked cyclic amidine compound which each may be located in the polyol component or the isocyanate component. Further disclosed are methods of bonding structures together using the latent two-part polyurethane adhesives.
PLASTICIZED THERMOSET RESIN, AND ASSOCIATED CURED RESIN, METHOD OF CURING, AND ARTICLE COMPRISING CURED RESIN
A curable composition includes a hydrogen-bonded prepolymer, a plasticizer that includes an alkyl benzoate or an alkyl phenyl ketone, and, optionally, a crosslinking agent. The plasticizer promotes a high extent of crosslinking and provides a more positive health and safety profile than the incumbent plasticizer, furfural. A cured resin and a method of forming it are described.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING AN OBJECT FROM A PRECURSOR, AND USE OF A RADICALLY CROSSLINKABLE RESIN IN AN ADDITIVE PRODUCTION METHOD
A process for producing an object from a precursor comprises the steps of: I) depositing a free-radically crosslinked resin atop a carrier to obtain a ply of a construction material joined to the carrier which corresponds to a first selected cross section of the precursor; II) depositing a free-radically crosslinked resin atop a previously applied ply of the construction material to obtain a further ply of the construction material which corresponds to a further selected cross section of the precursor and which is joined to the previously applied ply; III) repeating step II) until the precursor is formed;
wherein the depositing of a free-radically crosslinked resin at least in step II) is effected by exposure and/or irradiation of a selected region of a free-radically crosslinkable resin corresponding to the respectively selected cross section of the object and wherein the free-radically crosslinkable resin has a viscosity (23 C., DIN EN ISO 2884-1) of 5 mPas to 100000 mPas. In the process the free-radically crosslinkable resin comprises a curable component in which NCO groups and olefinic CC double bonds are present, wherein in the curable component the molar ratio of NCO groups to olefinic CC double bonds is in a range from 1:5 to 5:1.
In the process, after step III) step IV) is further performed: IV) treating the precursor obtained after step III) under conditions sufficient to at least partially trimerize to isocyanurate groups NCO groups present in the free-radically crosslinked resin of the obtained precursor to obtain the object.
The invention further relates to the use of a free-radically crosslinkable resin having a viscosity (23 C., DIN EN ISO 2884-1) of 5 mPas to 100000 mPas in an additive manufacturing process, wherein the resin comprises a curable compound having isocyanurate groups, NCO groups and olefinic CC double bonds. The invention finally relates to a polymer obtainable by crosslinking such a resin.
SURFACING MATERIALS AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
A textured release sheet includes a substrate, which has been electron beam treated, including a top side and a bottom side. A matte surface is formed on the bottom side thereof, wherein the matte surface of the surfacing material is a coating of an radiation curable material applied to the bottom side of the substrate. The coating is an UV curable acrylate mixture applied to the substrate, wherein the UV curable acrylate mixture is irradiated with UV-radiation via an excimer laser emitter to produce a UV-irradiated layer wherein the UV curable acrylate mixture is only crosslinked on the surface thereof, which produces a matting surface through the effects of a micro-convolution.
