EXPANDABLE MEDIA WITH FLEXIBLE SKIN AS TOOLING FOR COMPOSITE PARTS
A system for curing a composite part, includes a mandrel configured to receive and support the uncured composite part; a plurality of expandable pellets disposed on the uncured composite part; and a mold configured to hold the mandrel, the uncured composite part, and the plurality of expandable pellets, wherein the plurality of expandable pellets are configured to expand and apply a positive pressure to the uncured composite part according to a change in condition or triggering event, and wherein each of the plurality of expandable pellets includes a blowing agent, a polymer matrix configured to hold the blowing agent, and a flexible skin configured to encapsulate the polymer matrix and the blowing agent, wherein the flexible skin is at least partially permeable with respect to the blowing agent or a gas released by the blowing agent.
Composition, foamed silicone elastomer formed therefrom, and methods of formation
A composition for forming a foamed silicone elastomer is disclosed. The composition comprises: A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded ethylenically unsaturated groups per molecule; B) an organohydrogensiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule; C) a hydrosilylation catalyst; D) a chemical blowing agent; and E) a physical blowing agent. The hydrosilylation catalyst C) is present in a catalytically effective amount. The chemical blowing agent D) has at least one hydroxyl (OH) group, and is present in an amount to provide a OH content >0 and <500 parts per million (ppm). The physical blowing agent E) undergoes a phase change from a liquid to a gaseous state during exposure to atmospheric pressure and a temperature ≥0° C. The blowing agents D) and E) are different from one another. A foamed silicone elastomer, and methods of forming the composition and foamed silicone elastomer are also disclosed.

USE OF A COMPOSITION FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF A FOAMED ARTICLE
The present invention relates to the use of a composition comprising from 60-98 wt. % of polypropylene, from 2-40 wt. % of aromatic polycarbonate and from 0.1-10 wt. % of compatibiliser for the manufacture of a foamed article, wherein the compatibiliser is a BAB or AB type of block copolymer comprising a polypropylene block A and a polyester or polycarbonate block B, or wherein the compatibiliser is a graft copolymer of the type ABn having a polypropylene backbone A and polyester or polycarbonate block(s) B grafted thereon, with n being at least 1, and wherein the polyester or polycarbonate blocks B have an average M/F ratio from 2-25, wherein M is the number of backbone carbon atoms in the polyester or polycarbonate not including carbonyl carbon atoms, and F is the number of ester or carbonate groups in the polyester or polycarbonate block, and wherein the wt. % is based on the sum of the amount polypropylene, polycarbonate and compatibiliser.
