Chloroethylene-based nanocomposite composition and method of preparing the same

Disclosed are a chloroethylene-based nanocomposite composition comprising a chloroethylene-based resin; a nanoclay comprising a coupling agent bonded thereto; and at least one polymer selected from unsaturated organic acid-based resins or polycarboxylic acid-based resins, and a method of preparing the same.

Downhole tools having superhydrophobic surfaces

A method of producing hydrocarbon from a subterranean formation comprises: disposing an article in a well penetrating a subterranean formation, the article having a surface coated with a hierarchical superhydrophobic coating or the article being a stand-alone hierarchical superhydrophobic membrane; contacting the article with a flow of a water-based fluid and an oil-based fluid; selectively impeding the flow of the water-based fluid; and allowing the production of the oil-based fluid.

THERMAL TREATMENT OF IRRADIATED MATERIAL SOLIDS USING A HEAT TRANSFER LIQUID

Irradiated material solids are thermally treated using a heat transfer liquid to improve the physical, chemical, mechanical and/or biochemical properties of the irradiated material solids.

Thermoplastic polymers

Thermoplastic polymers, for example fluoropolymers, are foamed by use of a solid formulation comprising thermoplastic polymer and an oxalate compound which includes a moiety selected from potassium, calcium, titanium, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, zirconium and barium.

Method for modifying surface and surface modified elastic body

The present invention provides a method for surface-modifying a rubber vulcanizate or a thermoplastic elastomer, which can cost-effectively provide a variety of functions, such as remarkable sliding properties or biocompatibility, according to the application. The present invention relates to a method for surface-modifying a rubber vulcanizate or a thermoplastic elastomer as a modification target, the method including: step 1 of forming polymerization initiation points A on a surface of the modification target; step 2 of radically polymerizing a non-functional monomer starting from the polymerization initiation points A to grow non-functional polymer chains; step 3 of washing the modification target on which the non-functional polymer chains are grown; step 4 of forming polymerization initiation points B on a surface of the non-functional polymer chains; and step 5 of radically polymerizing a fluorine-containing functional monomer starting from the polymerization initiation points B to grow fluorine-containing functional polymer chains.

Ultraviolet Radiation and Atomic Oxygen Barrier Films and Methods of Making and Using the Same

Barrier films including a (co)polymeric substrate, at least one dyad on the substrate, each dyad made of a (co)polymer layer and an oxide layer overlaying the (co)polymer layer, and an outer (co)polymer layer overlaying the dyads. Optionally, at least one outer oxide layer overlays the outer (co)polymer layer. The barrier films transmit visible light and transmits, at an incident light angle of at least one of 0?, 30?, 45?, 60?, or 75?, at most 70 percent of incident ultraviolet light at a wavelength range from at least 100 nanometers to 400 nanometers or in a wavelength range from at least 100 nm to 350 nm. The barrier films exhibit atomic oxygen degradation of less than 1?10.sup.?20 mg/atom. The barrier films may be applied to decorative objects or electronic devices, (e.g., light receiving or emitting devices, in a satellite or aircraft. Methods of making the barrier films also are disclosed.

TOOTHED BELT

A toothed belt is provided with toothed portions arranged at a regular pitch in a belt length direction. A belt body is made of a rubber composition containing, as a main ingredient of a rubber component, ethylene-?-olefin elastomer having an ethylene content of 44% by mass to 66% by mass. A reinforcing fabric is adhered to a surface of the belt body on a toothed side, with a reinforcing fabric adhesion coat interposed between the reinforcing fabric and the belt body. The reinforcing fabric adhesion coat is made of a rubber composition containing hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber as a main ingredient of a rubber component.

With the binder produced according to the invention, a number of coating products can be produced which adhere to plastics directly and without any chemical or physical pretreatment. Base coats, high-gloss lacquers, metallic lacquers, clear lacquers and effect lacquers can be produced which can be applied directly on plastics; this is an absolute novelty because pretreatment is no longer required. With the binder according to the invention it is also possible to formulate adhesives which guarantee very good bonding between plastics themselves and also paperboard packaging. The invention relates to the binder as well as base coats based on them, one-coat lacquers and adhesives.
