A flexible piezoelectric thin film, and method of manufacture, has a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-glycine-PVA sandwich heterostructure. The thin film is manufactured by evaporating the solvent from a glycine-PVA mixture solution. The film automatically assembles into the PVA-glycine-PVA sandwich heterostructure as it is salted out. Strong hydrogen bonding between the oxygen atoms in glycine and hydroxyl groups on PVA chains are responsible for the nucleation and growth of the piezoelectric γ-glycine and alignment of the domain orientation.

FOAMABLE CROSSLINKABLE POLYMER COMPOSITION CONTAINING A FUNCTIONALIZED PARTICULATE BICARBONATE AS BLOWING AGENT AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A CROSSLINKED FOAMED POLYMER THEREFROM

A foamable polymer composition comprising a crosslinkable polymer, a crosslinking peroxide compound, and a chemical blowing agent comprising a functionalized particulate bicarbonate containing at least one additive. The additive may be selected from the group consisting of a fatty acid, a rosin acid, any derivative thereof, and salts thereof; or any combinations thereof, such as comprising abietic acid, dihydroabietic acid, neoabietic acid, a rosin acid ester, linoleic acid, or mixtures thereof. The particulate bicarbonate may be preferably functionalized by spray-coating, extrusion or co-grinding with at least one additive. The functionalized particulate bicarbonate may further comprise 0.1-5 wt % silica. A process for manufacturing a foamed crosslinked polymer, such as EVA and/or crosslinked polyolefins, and a foamed crosslinked polymer obtained by such process.

A water emulsion and film are provided comprising a polyacrylate random copolymer synthesized from acrylic acid (AA), butyl acrylate (BA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA). The emulsion may be applied to a surface in liquid form, quickly drying to yield a peelable protective barrier film.

BIO-BASED EVA COMPOSITIONS AND ARTICLES AND METHODS THEREOF

A copolymer may include ethylene and vinyl acetate, in which the ethylene is at least partially obtained from a renewable source of carbon. Embodiments may also be directed to curable polymer compositions, expandable polymer compositions, articles, cured articles, and expanded articles formed from or including such copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, in which the ethylene is at least partially obtained from a renewable source of carbon. A process for producing an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer may include fermenting a renewable source of carbon to produce ethanol; dehydrating the ethanol, wherein the ethanol is dehydrated to produce ethylene; and polymerizing ethylene and vinyl acetate to produce the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer.

Compositions and Foam Compositions Containing Composite Particles, Articles, Composite Particles, and Methods

Compositions are provided including an uncrosslinked thermoplastic nitrogen-containing matrix material and composite particles distributed in the matrix material. The composite particles each include a chemical blowing agent particle encapsulated within a shell including an uncrosslinked thermoplastic material. The uncrosslinked thermoplastic material exhibits at least a certain minimum complex viscosity at a decomposition temperature of the chemical blowing agent particle. Also described are foam compositions and particles including the foam compositions, such as a sheet or multilayer construction. Composite particles are further provided. Methods of making the foam compositions are additionally described herein. Also, polishing pads, polishing systems, and methods of polishing a substrate are provided.

Compositions in the form of dissolvable solid structures

Described are dissolvable, porous solid structures formed using certain vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol copolymers. The copolymer and the porosity of the structure allow for liquid flow during use such that the structure readily dissolves to provide a desired consumer experience. Also described are processes for making open cell foam and fibrous dissolvable solid structures.

A closed cell crosslinked polyolefin foam sheet comprises an opposing first surface region and second surface region, and an intermediate region disposed therebetween, wherein the intermediate region is configured to have a gel content lower than an average gel content of the first surface region and the second surface region to enable a controlled tear propagation within the intermediate region when a splitting force is applied to the closed cell crosslinked polyolefin foam sheet. For example, a ratio of a gel content of the intermediate region versus an average gel content of the first surface region and the second surface region may be about 75% or less, and a ratio of the average cell size of the intermediate region versus an average cell size of the first surface region and the second surface region may be about 125% or higher.
