exhibit enhanced ACBD properties in comparison to articles alike in all respects except made from a composition comprising an ethylenic polymer without the requisite crystallinity at room temperature.

Thermoplastic vulcanizate compositions

In methods for forming thermoplastic vulcanizates, and thermoplastic vulcanizates formed by such methods, a masterbatch comprising one or more additives in a carrier resin comprising propylene- or ethylene-based copolymer is added to the thermoplastic vulcanizate formulation. The resulting thermoplastic vulcanizate may additionally be passed through a 200 mesh or finer screen and thereafter extruded. The thermoplastic vulcanizates may exhibit increased extrusion throughput rates and enhanced surface smoothness.

METHOD FOR PURIFYING RECLAIMED POLYMERS

A method for purifying a reclaimed polymer to a purer polymer is disclosed. In embodiments of the present invention, the method involves obtaining a reclaimed polymer, leaching various contaminants with a leaching solvent producing a leached polymer, extracting the leached polymer with a first fluid solvent to produce an extracted polymer, and then dissolving the extracted polymer in a solvent to produce a first solution comprising the dissolved polymer. The first solution is settled and then filtered. A purer polymer is separated from the resulting solution.

Use of twin screw extrusion to further enhance the uniformity of crosslinked rubber dispersion in thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) to improve elastic properties of TPVs is disclosed. Most specifically, this invention employs intermeshing twin screw extruders to further homogenize dynamically vulcanized rubber dispersions in TPVs so that their particle size dispersion index (PSDI), or the ratio of weight average equivalent dispersion particle diameter to number average equivalent dispersion particle diameter, can be lowered to less than 1.6 or 1.57 with corresponding elastic property improvements by having lower hysteresis, higher elongation to break, and higher retractive force. TPV products having lower PSDI and improved elastic properties, and apparatus for conducting the disclosed method, are also provided.
